Browse 24 live Seiko auctionsThe Seiko 5606-7270 is unusual because the same reference appears as both Lord Matic and Advan. Made across 1972-1973, it combines a stainless-steel case, an automatic 5606-family movement and the emphatic dial treatments that define this corner of 1970s Seiko.
The strongest reason to buy one is the complete design rather than the reference alone. A faceted crystal, vivid gradient or textured dial, applied furniture and the correct handset must still work together. Among the watches we have handled, case diameter varies from 36 mm to 37 mm excluding the crown, enough to affect stance without changing the compact character.

The model landscape
Lord Matic examples use automatic caliber 5606A and appear with green gradient, blue gradient and blue sunburst dials. Applied gold-tone indices and a framed day-date display give these watches a dressier character, while the faceted crystal supplies much of the period geometry. The day wheel can combine English with Kanji or Japanese characters.
The Advan version uses automatic caliber 5606C with 25 jewels. Its green swirl-textured dial, printed Advan sun logo and jagged stepped gold-tone hands make it the more assertive configuration. Between an incomplete Advan and a coherent Lord Matic, take the Lord Matic - replacing the Advan-specific visual parts without creating a franken watch is the harder task.
On the wrist
At 36 mm or 37 mm excluding the crown, the 5606-7270 remains compact but does not read as plain. The faceted crystal adds height and changing reflections, while gradient, sunburst and swirl-textured dials make the face visually broader. The blue and green fields contrast strongly with applied gold-tone furniture, although oxidation on the hands can reduce clarity.
The original signed bracelet keeps the angular 1970s design intact and gives the watch a more integrated presence than an unrelated replacement. Bracelet stretch and end-link fit still matter in use. No thickness figure or water-resistance rating is established here, so suitability under a close cuff or around water should not be inferred.
What goes wrong
The worst fault is a redial because the colored finish, texture and applied furniture carry most of this reference's value. Gradient transitions should remain coherent, the Advan swirl texture should not be flattened by refinishing, and the day-date frame should sit cleanly at 3 o'clock. A genuine service dial is different from a redial, but neither should be called original without support.
Faceted crystals lose their geometry through polishing or replacement, hands develop oxidation and spotting, and bracelets acquire stretch. Case polishing softens the lug edges, while mismatched hands, dials or 5606 variants can create a franken or married watch. Running examples have shown markedly different daily rates, and the service history is unknown unless documentation accompanies the individual watch.

What to check before you buy
- Dial and model identity: A Lord Matic dial should carry its correct applied branding, while an Advan dial should have the printed Advan sun logo. A model name that conflicts with the dial design or movement variant is a franken warning.
- Hands and dial furniture: The Advan configuration uses distinctive jagged stepped gold-tone hands with applied faceted indices. Lord Matic examples use gold-tone faceted hands and applied indices, so generic replacements materially weaken the watch.
- Movement agreement: The handled Lord Matic watches use automatic caliber 5606A, while the Advan uses automatic caliber 5606C with 25 jewels. A conflicting model and caliber pairing needs explanation and may indicate a married or franken watch.
- Crystal geometry: The faceted crystal is central to the 5606-7270 design. Rounded facets, heavy polishing or a smooth replacement alter the profile, and a correct-looking crystal alone does not establish that it left the factory with the watch.
- Case and bracelet: The stainless-steel case should retain defined lug edges rather than soft, mushy contours. A signed bracelet supports the period configuration, but stretch, loose end links and mismatched fitment must be assessed separately.
