Now available at auction from Second Vintage
A quintessential 1970s Seiko Lord Matic with a vibrant dial and faceted crystal, this specific watch is defined by its striking green gradient dial with a vertical brushed texture. Retaining its distinctive period-correct faceted crystal and original signed bracelet, it offers a highly appealing configuration for collectors of Japanese horology.

Dial and Hands
The vibrant and well-preserved dial features a striking green gradient enhanced by a distinct vertical brushed texture. Applied gold-tone indices and Seiko and LM logos offer excellent contrast against the rich background. The surface remains notably clean, with no visible moisture damage or significant spotting. At the three o'clock position, an intact frame surrounds the dual-language English and Japanese Kanji day and date window. Crisp and matching gold-tone faceted baton hands feature black central stripes, accompanied by a matching gold-tone sweep seconds hand. The hands display a clean finish with minimal signs of oxidation.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel case features brushed upper surfaces and polished flanks, displaying honest vintage wear. There are moderate scratches and minor dings consistent with age and normal wear, though the case lines remain reasonably defined. The smooth polished bezel is integrated with the case design and shows light surface scratches consistent with the rest of the case. An unsigned crown, partially recessed into the case flank, appears functional and appropriate for the model. The distinctive faceted mineral crystal features multiple angled planes; while it shows some minor scratches and edge wear visible in reflections, it maintains clear visibility of the dial.
Movement
This Lord Matic is powered by the 23-jewel automatic caliber 5606A. The movement displays a generally clean appearance with a visible rotor, showing some minor surface wear on the rotor edge but no obvious heavy corrosion or damage. The caliber is properly engraved with Seiko, 23 Jewels, and Japan 5606A. The timegrapher records +3+6s/day. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece. The movement was serviced on 14 September 2026.
Strap
The watch is fitted with its original signed stainless steel folded link bracelet. The clasp is clearly signed SEIKO LM and the endlinks are stamped XGB 221. Original and well-worn, the bracelet shows moderate wear, scratches, and expected stretch for its age. It accommodates a maximum wrist size of 17.5cm.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The movement was serviced on 14 September 2026 and, supported by the recorded timegrapher result, is performing very strongly. The dial and hands are excellently preserved, retaining vibrant color and clean finishes. The stainless steel case and integrated bezel display honest wear, with moderate scratches and minor dings typical of a watch from this era. The original faceted crystal exhibits minor scratches and edge wear but remains highly legible. The original bracelet shows expected stretch and surface scratches.
Dimensions
The case measures 36 mm (excluding the crown).
Remarks
This Seiko stands out for its well-preserved green gradient dial and dual-language Kanji day wheel. The presence of the distinctive faceted crystal and original signed bracelet makes it a cohesive, highly attractive example of 1970s Japanese design.
History
The Seiko Lord Matic series was introduced in 1968 as a premium automatic watch positioned just below the King Seiko and Grand Seiko lines. The 5600 series calibers developed for the Lord Matic line were highly successful and were later refined for use in King Seiko and Grand Seiko watches. The caliber 5606 is a 23-jewel automatic movement that features both manual winding and hacking capabilities.
