Dial and Hands
The dial is a masterclass in mid-century Seiko design, featuring a brilliant silver sunburst finish that catches the light beautifully from every angle. It remains in stunningly clean condition, showing virtually no spots, moisture marks, or discoloration, which is a testament to its careful preservation. The dial furniture includes applied, faceted baton indices that feature crisp black central stripes, perfectly matching the sharp dauphine hands. The applied "SEIKO" and "LM" logos are executed with precision, sitting proudly above the printed "AUTOMATIC" and "23 JEWELS" text, accompanied by the Suwa Seikosha factory symbol. At the three o'clock position, a framed dual-language day and date window displays both English and Kanji characters. The delicate printed text at the bottom edge reads "JAPAN 5606 -7001S", completing this remarkably flawless vintage dial.
Case and Crystal
The 35mm stainless steel case utilizes a specialized front-loading monocoque construction, indicated by the distinct "OPEN THRU GLASS" engraving on the caseback, a design choice that improved water resistance by eliminating the traditional caseback seam. The case retains sharp, well-defined lines with clear transitions between the brushed upper lug surfaces and the highly polished case flanks. Honest signs of vintage wear, including light handling marks and superficial micro-scratches, are visible on the polished sides and smooth bezel, entirely consistent with normal use. The domed acrylic crystal is in excellent condition, providing a clear and undistorted view of the pristine dial beneath. The solid caseback features deep, legible engravings including the serial number, reference number, and the Suwa factory emblem.
Movement
Powering this timepiece is the Seiko Automatic Caliber 5606, a sophisticated 23-jewel movement that formed the foundation for many of Seiko's higher-tier watches of the era. Running in vintage operational condition. Maintains the authentic mechanical character of the era. Timegrapher results show a deviation of +40 to +44 seconds per day.
Strap
The watch is fitted with a period correct black leather strap featuring an alligator grain pattern and contrasting white perimeter stitching. The strap is in excellent condition and perfectly complements the monochrome elegance of the silver dial and steel case.
Condition
This timepiece is presented in excellent vintage condition. The dial is the undeniable focal point, remaining exceptionally clean and free of the aging often seen in watches of this period. The case retains its structural integrity and factory finishing styles, showing only moderate, age-appropriate wear. Overall, it is a highly attractive and well-preserved example.
Dimensions
The case measures 35 mm in diameter, excluding the crown.
