Dial and Hands
The well-preserved dial features a silver sunburst finish that catches the light beautifully, complemented by applied indices and Seiko and LM logos. It remains in clean overall condition with minimal signs of aging or spotting. A framed day-date window sits at the 3 o'clock position, offering both English and Kanji day displays. The baton hands feature black center stripes, though they show noticeable degradation; there is significant corrosion and plating loss visible on the minute hand, along with minor degradation on the hour hand near the pinion.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel one-piece case displays honest wear, featuring brushed upper surfaces that transition smoothly to polished flanks. The case edges remain relatively well-defined, with light scratches and handling marks consistent with age. A polished smooth bezel is integrated with the case and shows light scratching. The unsigned knurled crown sits flush with the case flank. The flat crystal, designed with a beveled edge, is generally clear despite showing minor surface scratches and dust.
Movement
Powering this Lord Matic is the automatic Seiko caliber 5606, a movement containing 23 jewels. The timegrapher records a rate of +12+15s/day. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece.
Strap
The watch is fitted with a black leather strap featuring an alligator grain pattern and white contrast stitching. It appears unworn or very lightly used, providing a comfortable and classic pairing for the steel case.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The dial is excellently preserved, showing a clean sunburst finish with minimal aging, though the hands display significant corrosion and plating loss, particularly on the minute hand. The one-piece stainless steel case exhibits honest wear with light scratches and handling marks consistent with its age, retaining well-defined edges. The crystal shows only minor surface wear.
Dimensions
The case measures 36 mm in diameter, excluding the crown.
Remarks
This 1971 Seiko Lord Matic offers a highly attractive silver sunburst dial paired with the functionality of a Kanji day wheel. The classic one-piece case design and strong mechanical performance make it a compelling choice for enthusiasts of 1970s Japanese watchmaking.
History
The Seiko Lord Matic line was introduced in the late 1960s as a high-quality mid-tier offering, positioned just below the King Seiko and Grand Seiko ranges. Produced by the Suwa factory, the 5606 caliber became one of Seiko's most reliable and widely used automatic movements of the era, featuring a practical day and date display. The reference 5606-7140 exemplifies the clean, sharp design language that defined Seiko's catalog during the early 1970s, providing excellent value and classic styling that continues to resonate with collectors today.
