History
Introduced in the late 1960s, the 61GS series represents a significant era in Japanese watchmaking. It was the first automatic Grand Seiko to feature a 36,000 bph hi-beat movement, designed to offer superior precision and stability. The case architecture was heavily influenced by Taro Tanaka's design principles, which mandated flat surfaces and sharp, highly polished angles to reflect light brilliantly. Today, these models are celebrated for their technical achievement and distinct, uncompromising aesthetic that defined the brand's visual identity.
