Dial and Hands
The watch features an exceptionally clean and well-preserved silver sunburst dial. Applied indices with black inserts remain entirely intact and free of debris, complementing the crisp, perfectly preserved printed text. The original luminous plots are fully present, displaying a consistent and attractive aging across the dial. The original stick hands, also featuring black inserts and luminous material, show noticeable age-related oxidation and dirt accumulation, particularly on the minute hand and near the center pinion.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel tonneau-shaped case displays honest wear while retaining its preserved original finishing lines, featuring brushed upper surfaces that transition clearly into polished flanks. Moderate scratches and small dings are visible throughout the case, consistent with age and regular use. The original signed Omega crown exhibits moderate wear and a softening of its knurled edges. Turning the watch over, the caseback shows some tool marks and surface scratches. A domed acrylic crystal protects the dial, bearing light surface scratches and scuffs visible under direct lighting.
Movement
Inside the case beats the highly regarded Omega Caliber 565 automatic movement, featuring 24 jewels and a quickset date function. The signature copper-colored plating remains bright and well-preserved, showing no obvious signs of corrosion or heavy tool marks, though minor wear is visible along the edge of the rotor. The timegrapher records a rate of +10+12s/day. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece.
Strap
The watch is fitted with its attractive original signed stainless steel brick-link bracelet. The bracelet features a signed Omega clasp and endlinks stamped 956. It displays moderate surface scratches and normal wear consistent with the case, accommodating a maximum wrist fit of 18cm.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The dial is stunningly preserved, offering a sharp contrast to the visible oxidation present on the hands. The stainless steel case and original brick-link bracelet show honest wear with moderate scratches, small dings, and tool marks on the caseback. The movement remains bright and clean, and supported by the timegrapher result, is running with impressive strength.
Dimensions
The case measures 34 mm in diameter, excluding the crown.
Remarks
This Omega Genève offers a compelling package for the dedicated enthusiast. The exceptionally clean silver sunburst dial provides tremendous visual appeal, while the presence of the original brick-link bracelet and the reliable Caliber 565 movement make it an outstanding choice for daily enjoyment.
History
The Omega Genève line was produced in large numbers throughout the mid-twentieth century, initially introduced to denote watches manufactured to the highest standards. By the late 1960s and 1970s, the Genève collection evolved into a broad range of accessible, reliable, and stylish everyday watches. Powered by robust movements like the Caliber 565, these watches have earned a lasting reputation among collectors for their durability and classic proportions. Finding an example that retains its original factory bracelet adds a layer of appeal for those who appreciate complete, unaltered vintage designs.
