Dial and Hands
The dial is a masterclass in mid-century restraint, featuring a brilliant silver sunburst finish that plays beautifully with the light. It is adorned with applied gold-tone faceted hour markers, including a distinctive double baton at the twelve o'clock position. The elegant typography features the classic cursive serif "Seiko Crown" signature alongside the printed "Diashock 19 Jewels" text at six o'clock. The gold-tone dauphine hands remain sharp and highly legible. The dial condition is truly exceptional for its age, remaining remarkably clean with only the faintest, most microscopic signs of even vintage aging, completely free of any distracting moisture damage, prominent spots, discoloration, or heavy patina.
Case and Crystal
The 35mm stainless steel case presents classic dress watch proportions with a slim profile and elegant, straight lugs. The case retains strong lines and defined edges, showing honest, light surface wear and superficial scratches consistent with careful vintage use, particularly on the polished flanks and caseback. The snap-on caseback is clearly engraved with the "Seiko Crown" script, "Stainless Steel," and the reference number 15002, while the interior displays the serial number 970628 alongside the vintage Seiko crane motif. The watch is fitted with a clear domed acrylic crystal that offers an unobstructed view of the pristine dial, showing minimal signs of wear.
Movement
Inside beats the manual-wind Seikosha Caliber 560, a robust and historically significant 19-jewel movement that laid the mechanical groundwork for Seiko's later chronometer efforts. The movement presents beautifully in the photographs, with clean bridges clearly stamped with "Seikosha," "19 Jewels," and the caliber designation "560" near the balance assembly. Performing well within expected vintage tolerances; running strong and steady. The timegrapher results show a deviation of -20s to -25s/day.
Strap
The watch is paired with a handsome brown alligator-grain leather strap, secured with a standard stainless steel pin buckle, perfectly complementing the warm gold-tone accents of the dial and indices.
Condition
Excellent vintage condition. This Seiko Crown has been wonderfully preserved, with an exceptionally clean dial and a case that shows only honest, appropriate vintage wear without any signs of heavy over-polishing or abuse. The movement remains visually clean and fully operational.

Remarks
The Seiko Crown is widely respected by enthusiasts as the direct predecessor to the legendary Grand Seiko line. Finding an example with such an immaculate dial and well-presed case lines offers a rare opportunity to acquire a highly attractive and historically important piece of Japanese watchmaking.
History
Introduced in 1959, the Seiko Crown was designed to be the brand's premier dress watch, surpassing the Marvel in both physical presence and mechanical refinement. The Crown's movement architecture was so successful that it served as the foundational caliber for the very first Grand Seiko in 1960. It represents a golden era of Japanese horology, characterized by elegant design, robust manual-wind calibers, and a dedication to precision that would eventually put Seiko firmly on the global map.
