Dial and Hands
The silver sunburst dial features a striking radial finish, complemented by applied silver-tone baton indices with contrasting black central stripes. The applied Seiko and LM logos, along with the faceted metallic frame surrounding the day-date aperture, add excellent depth to the layout. The day wheel displays both English and Kanji text. The dial exhibits clear signs of aging, most notably dark discoloration and wear along the extreme outer edge of the minute track, particularly visible along the left hemisphere from six to twelve o'clock. Minor spotting is also present on the dial surface upon close inspection. The matching baton hands and sweep second hand remain well-preserved, maintaining their sharp aesthetic against the silver backdrop.
Case and Crystal
The 36mm stainless steel case showcases Seiko's renowned Grammar of Design influence, featuring sharp, angular lugs and a well-proportioned smooth polished bezel. The transition between the brushed upper lug surfaces and polished case flanks remains visible, though softened by honest vintage wear. Surface scratches and minor handling marks are present throughout the case and bezel, consistent with regular use over the decades. The watch is fitted with a slightly domed Hardlex mineral crystal that presents clearly, with only light superficial wear. The screw-down caseback clearly displays all factory engravings, including the reference number, serial number, and the Suwa factory symbol.
Movement
Powering this timepiece is the venerable Seiko Caliber 5606A, a 25-jewel automatic movement renowned for its robust architecture and smooth sweeping seconds. Close inspection reveals a clean movement with crisp factory markings on the rotor and bridges. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece. The timegrapher results indicate a deviation of -10 to -12 seconds per day.
Strap
The watch is paired with a handsome black leather strap featuring contrasting white stitching, complementing the monochrome aesthetic of the dial and hands. The strap is supple and in excellent condition, secured by a classic polished steel pin buckle.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The case retains strong structural integrity with moderate surface scratches typical of its age. The dial shows distinct, localized edge wear and discoloration, alongside minor surface spotting, while the hands and applied dial furniture remain in highly attractive condition. The movement is clean and running strongly.
