    About This Watch

Now available at auction from Second Vintage A pioneering ultra-thin dress watch from Seiko's golden era, this Goldfeather presents a highly sought-after case geometry combined with a distinctive, heavily patinated dial. Designed as a direct response to the industry competition for thinner mechanical watches, this piece offers a compelling blend of historical significance and unique vintage character. Brand: Seiko Model: Goldfeather Reference Number: 15008E Movement: Manual winding, 25 jewels Dial: Heavily patinated with prominent spotting and staining Case Size: 35mm (excluding the crown) Case Material: 14K Gold Filled Production Year: 1960s Condition: Good vintage condition. Timegrapher: -8-12s/day, performing remarkably well. Dial and Hands The heavily patinated dial features prominent spotting and moisture-related aging, creating a unique visual character with significant staining across the entire surface. Despite this surface degradation, the printed text remains fully legible. The applied indices show some oxidation. The watch is fitted with Dauphine style hands that display age-appropriate light oxidation and spotting visible under magnification, while remaining free from severe corrosion or bending. Case and Crystal The 14K Gold Filled case features an ultra-thin profile that wears elegantly on the wrist. It is a well-preserved thin dress case exhibiting honest wear, with moderate surface scratches and handling marks consistent with age, but no major dents or deep gouges visible. The caseback carries the 14K Gold Filled marking. A thin, integrated style bezel surrounds the dial, showing light scratches consistent with the rest of the case. The knurled crown features an unsigned face and retains intact plating. The watch is fitted with a domed acrylic crystal that is clear with no major cracks or chips, showing only light surface scratches visible at certain angles. Movement Inside the case beats a clean 25-jewel Seikosha manual wind movement. The plates and bridges are clean, showing no obvious signs of corrosion or heavy tool marks, and the screws appear in good condition. The movement carries engravings reading TWENTY-FIVE 25 JEWELS, SEIKOSHA, and 375822. The recorded timegrapher result is -8-12s/day. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece. Strap The watch is paired with a black leather strap featuring contrast stitching. The strap appears unworn or very lightly used and remains in excellent condition. Condition Good vintage condition. The watch shows honest wear on the case and significant, heavy patina across the dial surface. The ultra-thin case profile remains structurally sound with no deep gouges, while the movement presents beautifully. Dimensions The case measures 35mm in diameter, excluding the crown. Remarks This Seiko Goldfeather stands out for its historically important ultra-thin case construction and its highly individualized dial aging. The 14K Gold Filled case and clean Seikosha movement make it a fascinating acquisition for collectors focused on significant mid-century dress watches. History The Seiko Goldfeather was introduced in 1960 as part of an industry competition to produce thinner mechanical watches. Upon its release, the Goldfeather held the record for the world's thinnest three-hand watch until it was surpassed in 1962. The Goldfeather was Seiko's answer to the ultra-thin watch trend of the early 1960s, making it a historically significant and sought-after model among collectors of mid-century Japanese horology.
