    About This Watch

Presented for auction by Second Vintage An early and sought-after Seiko Super from the 1950s, this collector piece features a distinctive textured stippled dial crowned by the applied gold-tone 'S' logo. Brand: Seiko Model: Super Reference Number: N 53244 Serial Number: S16058 Movement: Manual winding Dial: Textured stippled finish with applied gold-tone 'S' logo and vintage patina Case Size: 32mm (excluding the crown) Case Material: Stainless steel Production Year: 1950s Condition: Good vintage condition. Timegrapher: -8-11s/day, performing remarkably well. Dial and Hands The dial displays a heavily textured stippled finish that serves as a canvas for its prominent vintage patina. It features an applied gold-tone 'S' logo beneath the 12 o'clock position, complemented by applied gold-tone numerals and indices. A printed minute track with numeric markers rings the periphery. Visible spotting and patina are present throughout the surface, granting the watch a distinctly aged character. The gold-tone dauphine hands exhibit visible oxidation and patina that remain entirely consistent with the aging of the dial. Case and Crystal The stainless steel case features a polished finish and displays honest wear, with light scratches and handling marks present across the surfaces. The lugs retain good definition, framing the watch securely. A smooth polished bezel surrounds the dial, showing light scratches consistent with the wear on the main case. An unsigned crown with a knurled profile and a flat face sits at the 3 o'clock position. The domed acrylic crystal is clear, with no major scratches or cracks visible. Movement Powering the watch is a manual-winding movement engraved with SEIKOSHA and 15 JEWELS. The caliber presents beautifully with clean plates and bridges, showing only minor marks on the screw heads and no visible corrosion. The timegrapher records -8-11s/day. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece. Strap The watch is paired with a black leather strap that displays light wear and offers a casual character. Condition Good vintage condition. The watch shows honest wear across its stainless steel case and smooth bezel, with light scratches and handling marks visible on the polished surfaces. The heavily patinated dial and hands display significant spotting and oxidation, providing a cohesive aged aesthetic. The acrylic crystal remains clear and well-preserved. The manual-winding Seikosha movement is clean and, supported by the recorded timegrapher result, is performing very strongly. Dimensions The case size is 32mm (excluding the crown). Remarks This early Seiko Super stands out for its highly textured stippled dial and the prominent applied gold-tone 'S' logo. Combined with its clean 15-jewel Seikosha movement and strong timegrapher performance, it represents a compelling opportunity to acquire a sought-after 1950s reference with distinct character. History Introduced in 1950, the Seiko Super holds the distinction of being the first Japanese wristwatch to feature direct central seconds. Its movement was designed specifically for three central hands, connecting the seconds hand directly to the seconds wheel rather than relying on intermediate gears. Production of the Seiko Super continued for over five years, lasting until at least 1956. Models from this era featuring the applied 'S' logo remain sought after by brand collectors today.
