This elegant Omega Constellation is distinguished by its ultra-thin Caliber 712 automatic chronometer movement, a sought-after mechanical configuration that allows for a beautifully refined case profile. Dial and Hands
The dial is a pristine and highly legible focal point, featuring a beautiful vertically brushed silver and grey finish. Applied black-painted indices provide excellent contrast against the textured background, while the crisp printed text remains perfectly defined. There is no visible spotting or damage on the dial surface, presenting a remarkably clean aesthetic. The black stick hands show excellent preservation with a clean finish and no visible corrosion, complementing the markers perfectly.
Case and Crystal
The 35mm stainless steel case features a highly appealing thin profile, presenting honest wear with preserved geometry. The surfaces display light surface scratches consistent with age, alongside visible dirt and grime around the caseback seating area. A thin polished bezel integrates with the overall case design, showing light surface wear. The flat crystal is clear with no obvious scratches or chips, providing an unobstructed view of the dial. The case is completed by a signed Omega crown of appropriate size and style, and the caseback proudly displays the classic Constellation observatory medallion.
Movement
Inside beats the copper-colored Omega Caliber 712 automatic chronometer movement. The caliber is proudly engraved with OMEGA WATCH Co SWISS, ADJUSTED FIVE (5) POSITIONS AND TEMPERATURE, and TWENTY-FOUR 24 JEWELS. Visually, the movement shows some tarnish and dirt on the rotor edge, though the balance wheel and components appear intact. Recording -92s on the timegrapher. Operational condition. Timegrapher results reflect current performance; the movement is running and operational.
Strap
The watch is fitted with a period correct stainless steel mesh bracelet that perfectly suits the thin profile of the case. The bracelet shows light wear and features an unsigned clasp, maintaining the sleek, continuous look of the period-appropriate mesh. It accommodates a maximum wrist size of 18cm.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The watch presents a beautiful contrast between its exceptionally well-preserved dial and hands and the honest, age-appropriate wear of the stainless steel case. The case retains its attractive thin geometry, though it does exhibit light surface scratches and visible dirt around the caseback seating area. The movement is running and operational.
Dimensions
The case measures 35mm (excluding the crown).
Remarks
This Constellation is a superb opportunity to acquire a watch powered by Omega's thinnest automatic movement. The combination of the Caliber 712, the remarkably clean brushed silver dial, and the elegant case profile makes this a highly compelling vintage timepiece for any dedicated enthusiast.
History
Introduced in 1952, the Constellation line was designed to be Omega's flagship chronometer, representing the pinnacle of their series-produced precision watchmaking. The observatory medallion on the caseback pays tribute to the brand's numerous accuracy records at the Kew-Teddington and Geneva observatory trials. The Caliber 712, introduced in the late 1960s, holds a special place in Omega's technical catalog as their thinnest automatic movement. This remarkable engineering achievement allowed the Constellation to evolve into a slimmer, more refined dress watch during the 1970s while maintaining the rigorous chronometer standards expected by Omega's most demanding clientele.
