Dial and Hands
The cream, off-white dial is evenly aged with noticeable spotting and scattered patina across its surface. It features applied gold-tone faceted indices and a classic sub-seconds register positioned at 6 o'clock, with the original printing remaining clear and legible. The dauphine style hands are heavily oxidized, displaying significant spotting and surface degradation on both the hour and minute hands, with the sub-seconds hand showing similar aging.
Case and Crystal
The 33mm 14K gold-filled case exhibits honest vintage wear, with normal surface scratches consistent with its age. The lugs retain generally good shape, though they show some softening of the edges. The integrated bezel flows smoothly into the case design. The gold-tone crown is signed with the Omega logo and shows moderate wear to the knurling. On the reverse, the caseback displays typical light scratches and is marked 14K GOLD FILLED on both the interior and exterior edge. A domed acrylic crystal protects the dial, remaining clear with minor surface scratches visible under certain lighting angles.
Movement
Inside sits the copper-colored bumper automatic caliber 344 movement, engraved with OMEGA WATCH Co, SWISS, SEVENTEEN 17 JEWELS, UNADJUSTED, alongside the caliber number 344 and serial number 14117675. The movement presents a generally clean appearance with minor signs of handling and age, while the screw heads show light wear. Recording +9+11s/day on the timegrapher. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece.
Strap
The watch is fitted with a complementary brown leather strap featuring an alligator grain pattern. It is secured by a gold-tone vintage buckle signed with an applied Omega logo, with the reverse marked ACIER INOX SWISS.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The case shows normal surface scratches and softened lug edges from honest wear. The dial features noticeable spotting and patina, while the hands are heavily oxidized with visible surface degradation. The acrylic crystal has minor scratches, and the signed crown shows moderate wear. The movement is clean with minor handling marks, and timegrapher data confirms strong mechanical performance.
Dimensions
The case measures 33mm (excluding the crown).
Remarks
This Omega offers the distinct charm of a 1950s bumper automatic caliber combined with an honest, evenly aged dial. The inclusion of the vintage signed buckle adds an excellent finishing touch for collectors of mid-century timepieces.
History
Omega movements with serial numbers in the 14 million range date to 1954 production. The caliber 344 is a standard production bumper automatic from this era, representing Omega's mid-century mechanical design. Well-preserved examples from this period, particularly those retaining signed vintage buckles, remain popular among collectors of classic 1950s timepieces.
