Dial and Hands
The original silver dial features a sunburst finish that now displays prominent age-related spotting and freckling patina distributed evenly across its surface. This natural aging lends the watch a distinct, original character. The dial is appointed with applied baton indices featuring black inserts, a matching applied Omega logo, and a cleanly framed date window positioned at 3 o'clock. The stick hands, complete with black inserts that match the indices, are accompanied by a sweep seconds hand. Under magnification, the hands show light surface oxidation and aging, remaining well-preserved and perfectly matching the surrounding dial furniture.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel case features a recognizable tonneau or C-shape profile, detailed with brushed upper surfaces and polished flanks. The case displays honest vintage wear, with moderate scratches and minor dings consistent with age and normal use. The edges remain reasonably defined, though they do show signs of previous polishing. A smooth polished bezel ring is integrated into the case design, showing light scratches consistent with the rest of the watch. The knurled crown is clearly signed with the Omega logo and shows light wear to the knurling. Turning the watch over reveals the signature Seamaster Hippocampus medallion deeply embossed on the caseback. The domed acrylic crystal is generally clear, with some light surface scratches visible at certain angles.
Movement
Inside beats the copper-plated Omega caliber 565 automatic movement, clearly engraved with "OMEGA WATCH Co SWISS", "TWENTY-FOUR 24 JEWELS", the caliber number "565", and the serial number "33574307". The movement is visually excellent; the copper plating appears bright and well-preserved, with no obvious signs of corrosion or heavy tool marks, and both the rotor and bridges remain notably clean. Recording +12+15s/day on the timegrapher. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece.
Strap
The watch is fitted with its original signed stainless steel beads-of-rice bracelet, providing a classic and comfortable wearing experience. The clasp cover features a prominent embossed Omega logo, and the endlinks are correctly stamped '614'. The bracelet shows normal wear, scratches, and stretch consistent with its age. It will accommodate a maximum wrist size of 17.5 cm.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The stainless steel case displays honest wear, with moderate scratches, minor dings, and signs of previous polishing, while retaining reasonably defined edges. The original silver sunburst dial exhibits prominent age-related spotting and freckling patina across its surface. The hands show light surface oxidation under magnification but remain well-preserved. The domed acrylic crystal has light surface scratches, and the original beads-of-rice bracelet shows normal wear and stretch consistent with its age. The bright copper-plated movement is clean and, supported by the recorded timegrapher result, is performing very strongly.
Dimensions
The case measures 35 mm (excluding the crown).
Remarks
This Seamaster is an excellent example of early seventies Omega design. With its classic tonneau case, original signed beads-of-rice bracelet, and the highly regarded caliber 565 movement, it offers enduring style and dependable mechanical performance.
History
The Omega Seamaster line has long been celebrated for its robust construction and elegant styling. By the late 1960s and early 1970s, Omega began experimenting with tonneau and C-shape case designs, moving away from traditional round profiles to embrace a more substantial, modern aesthetic. The reference 166.067 is a well-known and widely produced Seamaster model from this era, highly regarded for pairing this distinctive case geometry with the caliber 565. The caliber 565 is celebrated among collectors as one of Omega's finest automatic movements of the period, featuring a convenient quickset date mechanism activated by repeatedly pulling the crown. This era of Seamaster production represents a high-water mark for Omega's mid-century mechanical watchmaking.
