Dial and Hands
The exceptionally clean silver sunburst dial is beautifully preserved, showing no significant spotting or moisture damage. It features applied baton indices with striking black inserts that remain bright and intact, complemented by crisp and fully legible printed text. At the base of the indices, the original luminous plots are present and display an age-appropriate patina. The matching baton hands, also featuring black inserts, show honest age-related patina with some light oxidation and aging visible under macro inspection. Their luminous material has aged to a darker tone that perfectly matches the dial plots.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel tonneau-shaped case is in honest vintage condition, preserving its original finishing lines with brushed upper surfaces and polished flanks. It shows moderate surface scratches and small dings consistent with normal wear. An integrated smooth bezel frames the dial, displaying light surface scratches that align with the rest of the case. The knurled crown is signed with the Omega logo and retains good definition despite light wear. The inner caseback is correctly stamped with Omega branding and the 166.041 reference number. A domed acrylic crystal protects the dial, showing some light surface scratches and minor wear visible under direct lighting.
Movement
Inside beats the Omega Caliber 565 automatic movement, featuring 24 jewels. The copper-toned plating is bright, clean, and free of obvious corrosion or staining, while the screw heads and gears appear in very good visual condition. The movement bridges are clearly engraved with the manufacturer signature, caliber number, and matching serial number. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece. The timegrapher records a rate of -7-8s/day.
Strap
The watch is fitted with its original signed stainless steel link bracelet, complete with a signed Omega folding clasp and endlinks stamped 582. This period-correct original bracelet presents honest wear, showing moderate surface scratches, particularly on the clasp, along with expected stretch from use. It will comfortably accommodate a maximum wrist size of 19 cm.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The tonneau case retains its distinct brushed and polished surfaces, exhibiting moderate scratches and small dings from normal wear. The silver sunburst dial is wonderfully preserved and free of significant aging, while the hands show light oxidation under close inspection. The domed acrylic crystal and original signed bracelet display expected surface wear and stretch. Supported by the recorded timegrapher result, the movement is performing very strongly.
Dimensions
The case measures 34 mm in diameter, excluding the crown.
Remarks
This Genève delivers tremendous charm through its pristine dial configuration and robust Caliber 565 automatic movement. The presence of its original signed bracelet and crown completes a highly cohesive and attractive package, making it a superb choice for those seeking a dependable everyday vintage watch.
History
Originally introduced in the 1950s as a nod to watches produced under strict Swiss standards, the Omega Genève line evolved into a highly successful and varied collection by the late 1960s. The tonneau case shape seen here perfectly illustrates the shifting design language of the era, moving away from traditional round cases into more substantial, geometric forms. Equipped with the Caliber 565, a movement celebrated for its reliable automatic winding and practical quickset date function, this model represents a highly respected era of Omega production.
