Dial and Hands
The dark grey dial features a striking vertical brushed texture. Applied silver-tone indices and crisp Seiko and LM logos provide excellent depth. The surface remains notably clean, with no visible spotting or moisture damage, and the day and date window at three o'clock is highly legible. The silver-tone baton hands feature central white stripes and present a clean finish with no visible oxidation or corrosion, matching the dial perfectly.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel square cushion case retains its classic profile, integrating the bezel area directly into the main body. The polished front surfaces and flanks display visible scratches and scuffs consistent with honest wear and regular use, though the edges remain reasonably defined. The small knurled crown is unsigned. A distinctive faceted crystal, typical of 1970s Seiko design, completes the aesthetic, showing some light scratches and scuffs on its surface and beveled edges.
Movement
This Lord Matic is powered by a 25-jewel automatic movement. The timegrapher records a rate of -25s/day. Performing well within expected vintage tolerances; running strong and steady.
Strap
The watch is fitted with a black leather strap featuring an alligator-style pattern and white contrast stitching. The strap appears to be in lightly used condition, offering a comfortable and handsome complement to the dark textured dial.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The dial and hands are excellently preserved, showing clean surfaces and crisp printing without notable aging. The stainless steel case and faceted crystal display honest wear, with visible scratches and scuffs on the polished surfaces and beveled edges, while retaining their fundamental geometry.
Dimensions
The case measures 33 mm (excluding the crown).
Remarks
This Lord Matic is a highly wearable 1970s timepiece that offers distinctive geometry and excellent dial preservation.
History
Introduced in the late 1960s, the Seiko Lord Matic line was positioned just below the Grand Seiko and King Seiko ranges, offering sophisticated automatic movements and high-quality case finishing. By the early 1970s, the collection embraced bolder design language, frequently utilizing faceted crystals, textured dials, and cushion cases to appeal to contemporary tastes. The caliber 5606 became a highly regarded automatic movement during this era, recognized by collectors for its slim profile and reliable day and date functionality.
