Dial and Hands
The textured dial presents a distinct salmon or copper tone, offering an appealing patinated character. Visible spotting and patina are developing naturally, particularly around the outer edges and the lower half of the dial. The applied indices and logos remain bright and fully intact, while all printed text is perfectly legible. The dauphine-style hands feature black center stripes and display light oxidation alongside minor spotting on their gold-tone surfaces when viewed under magnification.
Case and Crystal
The gold-plated case shows honest wear, with moderate surface scratches and handling marks throughout. While the edges retain their general definition, they exhibit some softening from age and wear, and plating wear is visible on the lug tips and sharp edges. The smooth, polished integrated bezel shows light surface scratches consistent with the rest of the case. Turning the watch over reveals a fully intact and highly legible gold KS medallion on the caseback. The KS-signed crown remains functional, showing moderate wear to its knurling. The acrylic crystal is clear, presenting only minor surface scratches under direct light, with no major chips or cracks observed.
Movement
Inside beats the manual wind caliber 4502A, marked with 25 jewels. The movement appears very clean, showing no obvious signs of corrosion, oxidation, or moisture damage. Its screws and plates are well-preserved, featuring crisp engravings. Timegrapher results show -10-12s/day. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece. The movement was serviced on 6 August 2026.
Strap
The watch is paired with a brown leather strap featuring a crocodile pattern. The strap shows signs of light use and creasing, and is complete with a Seiko signature on the inner lining and a gold-tone Seiko-signed buckle.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The movement was serviced on 6 August 2026 and, supported by the recorded timegrapher result, is performing very strongly. The case displays honest wear with moderate scratches, some edge softening, and visible plating wear on the lugs and sharp edges, though the gold KS medallion remains beautifully intact. The dial has developed a visible patina and spotting around the perimeter and lower half, while the hands show light oxidation. The crystal has minor surface scratches, and the leather strap shows light use.
Dimensions
The case measures 35 mm in diameter, excluding the crown.
Remarks
This KS Hi-Beat offers an excellent opportunity to acquire a highly respected 45-series King Seiko. The combination of its beautifully textured patinated dial, the intact caseback medallion, and the strong performance of its 4502A caliber makes it a compelling addition to any vintage Japanese watch collection.
History
The King Seiko line was established in the 1960s as a premium offering alongside Grand Seiko, driving an internal rivalry that pushed Seiko to new heights of precision and design. The 45 series, introduced in the late 1960s, is particularly revered for its 36,000 bph manual-wind movements, which provided exceptional accuracy and sweeping seconds hands. These watches represent a golden era of Japanese watchmaking, characterized by sharp case geometries and rigorous chronometric standards that remain highly respected by modern collectors.
