History
Introduced in the early 1960s, the Sportsmatic 5 was the foundational model for the famous Seiko 5 collection. The number five denoted key attributes promised to the wearer, including an automatic movement, a day and date display, and a recessed crown at 4 o'clock to emphasize that manual winding was no longer necessary. The caliber 410 was one of the early automatic movements that helped establish Seiko's reputation for producing reliable and accessible mechanical watches for the global market.
