Dial and Hands
The watch features an exceptionally clean and vibrant dial with strong visual depth, highlighted by a striking brown gradient sunburst finish. It is populated by applied faceted indices with white inserts, alongside applied Seiko and LM logos. The surface remains beautifully preserved with no visible spotting, staining, or significant degradation. A day and date window at three o'clock is framed in a gold tone, displaying both English and Japanese Kanji languages. The baton-style hands feature white inserts matching the indices and present a clean finish with no obvious oxidation or corrosion. A gold-tone sweeping seconds hand completes the well-preserved display, complementing the dial perfectly.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel case displays honest vintage wear while preserving its original finishing contrasts, featuring brushed upper surfaces and polished flanks. Moderate surface scratches and scuffs are present, consistent with age and normal wear, while the case edges remain reasonably defined despite showing signs of handling. A smooth polished bezel ring surrounds the dial, showing light hairline scratches consistent with the rest of the case. The watch retains a distinctive faceted crystal with multiple flat planes; it exhibits light surface scratches and minor edge wear visible under certain lighting angles, though it maintains clear visibility of the dial. A small, partially recessed, unsigned crown is positioned at three o'clock, showing minor wear.
Movement
Inside is the automatic Seiko caliber 5606A, featuring 25 jewels. The movement is clean, with the rotor and bridges appearing well-preserved and the regulator assembly looking intact. There are no obvious signs of corrosion, oxidation, or heavy staining visible. +15+17s/day. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece. The movement was serviced on 13 August 2026.
Strap
The watch is fitted with its original signed stainless steel multi-link bracelet, adding to the completeness of the timepiece. The endlinks are stamped XGB310, and the clasp is clearly signed SEIKO LM. The bracelet shows moderate stretch, surface scratches, and normal wear consistent with its age, and will accommodate a maximum wrist size of 18cm.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The movement was serviced on 13 August 2026 and, supported by the recorded timegrapher result, is performing very strongly. The dial and hands are in excellent condition, showing a beautifully clean surface free of significant degradation. The case and bracelet exhibit moderate scratches, scuffs, and stretch typical of honest use over the decades. The distinctive faceted crystal shows minor edge wear and light scratches but remains highly presentable.
Dimensions
The case size is 37 mm (excluding the crown).
Remarks
This Lord Matic stands out for its fantastic brown gradient dial and the character of its faceted crystal. Complete with its original signed bracelet and a recently serviced movement, it represents a highly wearable and visually captivating example of 1970s Seiko design.
History
The Lord Matic line was introduced by Seiko in the late 1960s as an upper-mid-tier offering, positioned just below the prestigious King Seiko and Grand Seiko collections. Powered primarily by the 5600 series of movements, the LM range became a canvas for Seiko's adventurous 1970s design language. Models from this era frequently featured vibrant colored dials, faceted crystals, and distinctively angular case geometries. The caliber 5606 provided a reliable automatic foundation with day and date complications, making the Lord Matic a popular choice for those seeking both mechanical refinement and expressive style during a highly creative period in Japanese watchmaking.
