Dial and Hands
The silver sunburst dial is exceptionally clean and attractive, showing minimal signs of aging. It features crisp applied gold-tone indices and logos that catch the light beautifully. The printed text remains fully intact, while the distinctive day window at 6 o'clock displays prominently in red, offering a striking visual contrast. The original gold-tone dauphine hands show age-appropriate surface wear, with minor surface scratches, spotting, and light oxidation visible under macro inspection.
Case and Crystal
The 37mm gold-plated case displays honest vintage wear, with visible scratches and handling marks throughout. Expected plating wear and brassing are visible on the high-contact areas, specifically the lug edges and case flanks. The integrated gold-tone bezel shows consistent scratches and minor plating wear matching the case, as does the recessed crown positioned at 4 o'clock. Turning the watch over reveals a highly desirable caseback featuring a clear dolphin motif with crisp engravings. The domed acrylic crystal presents light surface scratches and scuffs visible at certain angles, though it remains free of major cracks or deep chips.
Movement
Inside beats the 26-jewel automatic caliber 6206A. The movement features striking gold-colored plates and a matching rotor, appearing clean with no obvious signs of heavy corrosion or moisture damage, though minor marks are visible on the screw heads. Engravings reading SEIKO, 26 JEWELS, and 6206A are clearly presented on the architecture. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece. The timegrapher records a rate of 10s+15s/day.
Strap
The watch is fitted with a complementary modern black leather strap featuring contrast stitching. The strap shows light wear and is in good condition, pairing naturally with the warm tones of the case.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The dial is exceptionally well-preserved, standing out as a highlight of this specific example. The case and hands display honest, age-appropriate wear, including expected plating loss and brassing on the case flanks and lugs, alongside surface oxidation on the dauphine hands. Supported by the recorded timegrapher result, the movement is performing very strongly.
Dimensions
The case measures 37 mm in diameter, excluding the crown.
Remarks
This Seikomatic Weekdater offers a compelling combination of a brilliant silver sunburst dial and the deeply charming dolphin caseback. The recognizable 6 o'clock day window layout remains an enduring favorite, making this a highly wearable and character-rich addition to any thoughtful collection.
History
Introduced in the early 1960s, the Seikomatic line represented a significant step forward in automatic watchmaking for the brand, prioritizing convenience and daily reliability. The Weekdater models quickly became a collector favourite, celebrated for their balanced dial symmetry achieved by separating the day and date complications, placing the full day of the week at the 6 o'clock position. Powered by the robust 62 series calibers, these timepieces perfectly illustrate the mid-century transition toward sophisticated, everyday automatic watches.
