Dial and Hands
The striking and well-preserved dial features a beautiful blue gradient, or vignette, finish. It is detailed with applied faceted indices and applied SEIKO and LM logos, all set against a clean surface with no visible spotting or damage. A practical day and date window is positioned at 3 o'clock, featuring a dual-language English and Kanji day wheel. The baton hands, accented with white central stripes, are paired with a sweep second hand. The handset is clean and matching, showing no visible oxidation or corrosion.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel cushion case displays honest vintage wear, featuring brushed top surfaces that contrast nicely with polished flanks. It shows light scratches and handling marks consistent with age, while the edges remain reasonably defined. The case includes a polished smooth bezel ring that bears light surface scratches, alongside a small, partially recessed crown with a fluted edge. The watch is fitted with a faceted crystal design that shows some light scratches and minor edge wear visible upon close inspection.
Movement
Inside the case is the automatic Seiko caliber 5606A, a 25-jewel movement with a visible rotor. The movement presents beautifully, with clean plates and bridges and no visible corrosion or damage. It features clear engravings reading SEIKO, 25 JEWELS, and JAPAN 5606A. Recording +30+35s/day on the timegrapher. Performing well within expected vintage tolerances; running strong and steady.
Strap
The watch is paired with a black leather strap detailed with white contrast stitching. The strap appears new or minimally worn, providing a comfortable fit and a versatile look.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The dial and hands are exceptionally clean and well-preserved. The stainless steel cushion case shows honest vintage wear, with light scratches and handling marks, while retaining its overall geometry. The faceted crystal exhibits some light scratches and minor edge wear. The movement is clean and, supported by the timegrapher reading, is running securely.
Dimensions
The case measures 36mm in diameter, excluding the crown.
Remarks
The brilliant blue gradient dial and the character of the faceted crystal make this Lord Matic a highly enjoyable wear. Powered by the reliable 5606A automatic caliber, it offers excellent 1970s design language in a very wearable format.
History
The Seiko Lord Matic line was introduced in 1968 as a high-grade automatic series positioned just below King Seiko and Grand Seiko. The 5606-7230 reference features a cushion-style stainless steel case that reflects Seiko's early 1970s design language. It is powered by the Seiko Caliber 5606A, an automatic movement that includes both hand-winding and hacking capabilities, highlighting the brand's commitment to mechanical refinement during this period.
