Dial and Hands
The dial features a brilliant silver sunburst finish that catches the light beautifully, radiating outward from the center with a fine, even grain. It is adorned with applied, faceted baton indices that feature crisp black central stripes, matched perfectly by the sharply faceted dauphine hands. The applied Seiko and LM logos offer excellent three-dimensional depth against the bright dial surface. A framed day-date aperture sits cleanly at the three o'clock position, displaying both English and Kanji day wheels. Close inspection reveals the dial surface remains wonderfully clean and bright, with only very faint micro-oxidation visible under macro magnification on the hands and the extreme edges of the date window frame. The printing, including the Suwa factory logo and lower dial text, remains crisp and fully intact.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel case features a classic tonneau profile with a monocoque construction, meaning the movement is accessed through the front glass, a hallmark of superior water resistance design in its era. The case retains strong, well-defined lines, showcasing a beautiful transition between the brushed upper surfaces and the highly polished case flanks. Honest signs of vintage wear, including scattered superficial hairline scratches and minor handling marks, are visible on the polished bezel and sides, consistent with careful use over the decades. The recessed knurled crown sits neatly against the case edge at the three o'clock position. The crystal remains clear and offers an unobstructed view of the dial, showing only very faint signs of careful wear.
Movement
Inside this monocoque case beats the highly regarded Seiko Caliber 5606 automatic movement, featuring 23 jewels and a quickset day-date complication. This caliber is celebrated for its slim profile and reliable architecture. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece. The timegrapher results indicate an outstanding performance of +9 to +13 seconds per day.
Strap
The watch is fitted with a handsome black leather strap featuring contrasting white saddle stitching. The strap compliments the monochromatic aesthetic of the silver dial and steel case perfectly, securing to the wrist with a classic stainless steel pin buckle.
Condition
This Lord Matic is presented in excellent vintage condition. The case retains its factory-intended geometry with honest, age-appropriate surface wear that does not detract from its striking presence. The silver sunburst dial is exceptionally well-preserved, standing out as a prime example of Seiko's enduring quality. The hands and indices retain their sharp facets, and the overall visual presentation of the watch is outstanding for a piece from the early 1970s.
