Dial and Hands
The exceptionally clean and vibrant original dial features a brilliant silver sunburst finish, free from visible staining or moisture damage. The applied indices and Seiko logo remain bright and well-preserved, complementing the crisp and fully intact printed text. The dial displays dauphine hands with black central stripes, showing only very minor dust or micro-oxidation visible under high magnification. The alarm indicator hand is clean and distinct, matching the dial's excellent preservation.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel case is in well-preserved vintage condition, retaining strong original geometry and sharp lines with well-defined transitions between the brushed and polished surfaces. Wear is limited to light superficial scratches consistent with careful use, with no major dents or deep dings visible. The smooth polished bezel is integrated beautifully into the design, showing only light hairline scratches. An unsigned fluted crown sits at three o'clock, accompanied by the alarm pusher at two o'clock, which appears in good condition. The domed acrylic crystal is clear, with no significant scratches, crazing, or cracks visible.
Movement
Inside is the desirable 27-jewel Seiko caliber 4006A. The movement appears clean with no obvious signs of corrosion or heavy wear, displaying standard factory finishing across the bridges and rotor, with some minor surface marks noted on the rotor itself. Clear engravings verify the Seiko, 27 Jewels, Japan, and 4006A markings. Recording +15+18s/day on the timegrapher, it is exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece. The movement was serviced on 23 August 2026.
Strap
The watch is fitted with a black leather strap featuring alligator grain and white contrast stitching. The strap appears new or very lightly used, providing a handsome complement to the silver dial and steel case.
Condition
Excellent vintage condition. The movement was serviced on 23 August 2026 and, supported by the recorded timegrapher result, is performing very strongly. The case remains sharp with well-defined lines and only light superficial scratches. The silver sunburst dial is exceptionally clean, with bright indices and crisp text. The hands show only negligible micro-oxidation under magnification. The acrylic crystal is clear, and the leather strap is in excellent, lightly used condition.
Dimensions
The case measures 37 mm in diameter, excluding the crown.
Remarks
This Bell-Matic stands out due to its early 27-jewel configuration and remarkably clean silver sunburst dial. With its sharp stainless steel case and strong mechanical performance following its recent service, it presents a compelling opportunity to acquire a highly desirable vintage Seiko alarm watch.
History
Introduced in the late 1960s, the Seiko Bell-Matic brought mechanical alarm functionality to the broader market with impressive engineering and distinct styling. The earliest iterations, featuring the 27-jewel caliber 4006A, were produced in smaller numbers before Seiko transitioned to 17-jewel versions to meet changing import tariff regulations. These early 27-jewel examples remain highly prized by vintage Seiko enthusiasts for their higher jewel count and historical position at the beginning of the Bell-Matic lineage.
