The Seiko Goldfeather stands as a magnificent achievement in mid-century Japanese horology, born during a fiercely competitive era when the world’s top manufacturers vied to produce the thinnest mechanical calibers. Introduced in 1960, the Goldfeather shattered records by becoming the thinnest center-seconds watch in production at the time. This specific example beautifully showcases Seiko’s dedication to elegant, understated dress watch design, combining a remarkably slender profile with a robust and highly finished movement. It is a true collector’s piece that perfectly captures the golden age of ultra-thin watchmaking.

Dial and Hands
The dial of this Goldfeather is a masterclass in mid-century minimalism, featuring a brilliant silver sunburst finish that catches the light beautifully from every angle. The typography is elegantly executed, with the "Seiko Goldfeather" name rendered in a sweeping cursive script, complemented by the crisp "Diashock 25 jewels" text printed below the center pinion. The dial furniture consists of highly polished, applied faceted baton indices, with a prominent double marker situated at the twelve o'clock position. Slender dauphine hands complete the sophisticated aesthetic. The dial condition is truly outstanding, remaining exceptionally clean and vibrant with virtually no visible spotting, staining, or degradation. The factory printing is sharp, including the minute track and the "JAPAN GFISN268" signature at the very bottom edge. Both the hands and applied markers remain bright and free of oxidation.
Case and Crystal
The 36 millimeter stainless steel case is defined by its ultra-thin profile, a hallmark of the Goldfeather line. The fully polished case features a smooth, narrow bezel and gently sweeping lugs that provide a refined presence on the wrist. The lug profile remains sharp and well-defined, showing no signs of over-polishing. The case exhibits honest, age-appropriate wear, with light superficial scratches and handling marks visible on the polished flanks and bezel. The snap-on caseback displays faint remnants of the original exterior engraving, while the interior is crisply stamped with the crane logo, reference J15002E, and serial number 1014232. The watch is fitted with a domed crystal that is clear and free of major scratches, offering an unobstructed view of the pristine dial beneath.
Movement
Powering this elegant dress watch is the marvelously thin Seikosha manual wind movement. A visual inspection of the caliber reveals a beautifully finished architecture with bright bridges, clean screw heads, and rich gold-tone jewel settings. The movement is clearly stamped with "TWENTY-FIVE 25 JEWELS", "SEIKOSHA", and the caliber identification "291669". Performing well within expected vintage tolerances; running strong and steady. The timegrapher results indicate a rate of +33 to +35 seconds per day.
Strap
The watch is paired with a black leather strap featuring an embossed crocodilian pattern and contrasting white edge stitching. The strap is supple, complementing the slender and elegant dress profile of the timepiece, and is secured by a standard polished stainless steel pin buckle.
Condition
This Seiko Goldfeather is presented in excellent vintage condition. The dial is the undeniable highlight, having survived the decades in an immaculately preserved state with no notable flaws. The stainless steel case retains its elegant geometry and ultra-thin proportions, displaying only normal, light surface wear consistent with careful use over the past sixty years. The movement is visually exceptionally clean and fully operational.
