A quintessential example of Seiko's early 70s Lord Matic line, this 1970 piece features a desirable English and Japanese Kanji dual-language day wheel. Housed in a classic tonneau case, it pairs a silver sunburst dial with the renowned 5606 automatic caliber, offering a distinctly authentic 1970s aesthetic.

Reference Number: 5606-7140
Serial Number: 098013
Movement: Automatic caliber 5606
Dial: Silver sunburst with applied indices and a day-date aperture
Case Size: 36mm (excluding the crown)
Case Material: Stainless Steel

Dial and Hands
The dial features an attractive silver sunburst finish complemented by applied indices with black central stripes. The printing remains crisp and legible, alongside the highly practical English and Kanji day-date window. There is noticeable dirt, debris, and moisture spotting around the outer edge of the dial, particularly between the 10 and 1 o'clock positions, representing visible edge degradation. The dauphine style hands, which also feature black central stripes, show noticeable age-related degradation. The luminous material on the hands is significantly darkened, and the metal surfaces exhibit oxidation and spotting.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel tonneau case presents honest vintage wear with preserved original geometry. It features brushed top surfaces and polished flanks, with edges that remain reasonably defined but show clear signs of wear. Moderate scratches and scuffs are visible throughout the case, consistent with its age and use. The plain, unsigned crown shows minor wear to its knurling. On the reverse, the caseback engravings remain clear and legible. The flat acrylic crystal is generally clear, showing some minor surface scratches visible under certain lighting angles, with no major cracks or chips observed.
Movement
This Lord Matic is powered by Seiko's automatic caliber 5606, a highly regarded movement from the era. The timegrapher records a rate of -2-7s/day. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece.
Strap
The watch is fitted with a black leather strap featuring a faux crocodile pattern and white contrast stitching. It appears to be in lightly used condition, offering a complementary aesthetic to the classic steel case.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The watch displays honest wear throughout the case, including moderate scratches and scuffs. The silver sunburst dial shows visible moisture spotting and debris around the outer edges, while the original hands exhibit darkened luminous material and surface oxidation. The acrylic crystal has minor surface scratches. Supported by the recorded timegrapher results, the movement is performing very strongly.
Dimensions
The case measures 36mm in diameter (excluding the crown).
Remarks
This Lord Matic offers classic 1970s Seiko design language with its tonneau case and sunburst dial. The inclusion of the English and Kanji day wheel adds an appreciated detail for collectors of Japanese horology.
History
Introduced in the late 1960s, the Seiko Lord Matic line was positioned just below the King Seiko and Grand Seiko collections, offering sophisticated design and advanced mechanical calibers to the broader public. The 5606 movement became highly utilized in Seiko's production during this era, celebrated for its robust architecture. Today, Lord Matic models are appreciated for their distinctly 1970s case geometries and reliable performance, representing a significant chapter in Seiko's manufacturing timeline.
