Presented for auction by Second Vintage A quintessential 1970s standard production model, this Rado Alpineum features a striking textured dial that immediately draws the eye. The distinctive grey vertically brushed surface provides a brilliant backdrop for the signature applied Rado anchor logo with its vibrant red background. Housed in a classic tonneau case and fitted with its original signed flat-link bracelet, this timepiece offers a highly cohesive period aesthetic alongside the reliability of its ETA-based automatic movement. Brand: Rado Model: Alpineum Reference Number: 11018 Serial Number: 06207 Movement: Automatic Dial: Grey vertically brushed with applied indices and red date display Case Size: 36mm (excluding the crown) Case Material: Stainless steel Production Year: 1970s Condition: Good vintage condition. Timegrapher: -8-13s/day, performing remarkably well. Dial and Hands The striking grey dial is in excellent preservation, defined by a distinct vertical brushed texture that interacts beautifully with the light. Applied faceted indices with white inserts mark the hours, complementing the baton hands which also feature white inserts. A vibrant applied Rado anchor logo sits on a red background, balanced by a bold red date display at the 3 o'clock position. The dial maintains a very clean overall appearance with minimal signs of aging. The original hands show expected patina, with visible oxidation and surface aging present on their metal portions. Case and Crystal The stainless steel tonneau case features an integrated front design without a distinct separate bezel, defined by brushed top surfaces and polished flanks. The case displays honest wear consistent with its age, including visible dings and scratches, most notably near the 1 o'clock position on the upper case edge. The crown is signed with the Rado anchor logo and exhibits moderate wear along its fluted edges. The flat crystal is generally clear, though it bears some minor surface scratches visible in reflections. On the caseback, the serial number is only partially legible due to surface wear. Movement Inside the case beats the ETA caliber 2824, a 25-jewel automatic movement operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour. The movement features a signed rotor and displays clean plates and bridges, with engravings noting Rado, 25 jewels, 2824, and 202. There are no obvious signs of corrosion or damage visible on the caliber. Recording -8-13s/day on the timegrapher. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece. Strap The watch is fitted with its original signed stainless steel flat-link bracelet, maintaining the integrated style of the tonneau case. The clasp is prominently signed with the Rado anchor and text. The bracelet shows moderate surface scratches and wear throughout, consistent with the case. It will accommodate a maximum wrist size of 18cm. Condition Good vintage condition. The dial remains remarkably clean and well-preserved, standing out against the honest, age-related wear of the exterior components. The case and original bracelet show moderate surface scratches and dings, particularly the mark near the 1 o'clock upper lug edge, while the hands display visible oxidation. Supported by the recorded timegrapher result, the movement is performing very strongly. Dimensions The case measures 36mm (excluding the crown). Remarks This Rado Alpineum offers a highly attractive grey textured dial paired with its original signed flat-link bracelet. Driven by a robust ETA 2824 automatic movement, it represents a highly wearable and visually engaging 1970s design. History During the 1970s, Rado continued to build upon its reputation for distinctive case geometries and visually engaging dial textures. The Alpineum line represents a classic standard production model from this era, utilizing the highly dependable ETA caliber 2824. Operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, this movement provided a robust and accurate foundation for many Swiss brands during the decade. With its tonneau case and integrated bracelet styling, the Alpineum perfectly reflects the prevailing design language of 1970s watchmaking.
