Dial and Hands
The dial of this Lord Matic is a masterclass in subtle texture, featuring a prominent vertical brushing that catches the light beautifully and shifts from bright silver to soft grey depending on the angle. The dial remains in exceptionally clean, pristine condition, showing no visible spotting, moisture damage, or discoloration. It is appointed with highly polished, applied gold-tone baton indices, each featuring a distinct black central channel that enhances legibility. The applied Seiko and LM logos, along with the Suwa factory symbol, are crisp and perfectly positioned. A framed day-date aperture rests at the three o'clock position, showcasing a highly desirable dual-language English and Kanji day wheel, with Saturday rendered in classic blue Kanji and Sunday in vibrant red English text. The gold-tone dauphine hands mirror the indices with matching black central stripes, remaining sharp and free of oxidation. The minute track and lower dial text, including the "JAPAN 5606 -7001T" factory code, are flawlessly printed.
Case and Crystal
The 35mm gold-tone case features Seiko’s classic C-case or tonneau profile, characterized by sweeping lines and sharp, faceted lugs that reflect the brand's iconic Grammar of Design principles. The case is a front-loading monocoque design, clearly denoted by the crisp "OPEN THRU GLASS 30. PUSH SET LEVER, PULL STEM" engraving on the stainless steel caseback. The case exhibits honest signs of vintage wear, including fine surface scratches and slight softening of the gold-tone finish along the sharpest lug edges and bezel periphery, entirely consistent with careful enjoyment over the decades. The recessed, coin-edge crown is correctly unsigned and sits neatly against the case flank. The watch is fitted with a clear crystal that provides an entirely unobstructed and distortion-free view of the spectacular dial beneath.
Movement
Housed safely within the monocoque case is the revered Seiko Caliber 5606, a 23-jewel automatic movement that was a cornerstone of the brand's upper-mid-tier offerings during the 1970s. Running in vintage operational condition. Maintains the authentic mechanical character of the era. Recording +49 to +51 seconds per day on the timegrapher.
Strap
The watch is paired with a handsome black leather strap featuring an embossed crocodilian pattern. The strap is beautifully accented with thick, gold-tone contrast stitching that perfectly complements the golden hues of the case and dial furniture, secured by a classic gold-tone tang buckle.
Condition
This timepiece is presented in excellent vintage condition. The dial is the undeniable highlight, having survived the decades in near-flawless, immaculate shape. The gold-tone case displays expected, honest wear with minor surface marks and subtle rubbing on the high points, but retains its handsome architectural geometry and clear caseback engravings. The movement is running and operational, making this a highly attractive and wearable vintage package.
