    About This Watch

Now available at auction from Second Vintage A classic 1970s Rado Voyager featuring a unique vertical day-date layout. This distinctive configuration, positioned at 6 o'clock, gives the watch a wonderfully balanced symmetry, complemented by an exceptionally well-preserved silver sunburst dial. Paired with its original intricate stainless steel bracelet, this piece represents a highly characterful expression of 1970s design. Brand: Rado Model: Voyager Reference Number: 11814/1 Movement: Caliber 2789 automatic, 25 jewels Dial: Silver sunburst with vertical day-date at 6 o'clock Case Size: 35 mm (excluding the crown) Case Material: Stainless Steel Production Year: 1970s Condition: Good vintage condition. Timegrapher: +33+35s/day, running strong and steady. Dial and Hands The remarkably well-preserved silver sunburst dial is in very clean condition, defined by its highly distinctive vertical day-date aperture positioned at 6 o'clock. This unusual layout provides a striking visual symmetry. Applied hour indices with black inserts remain fully intact, perfectly matched by the baton-style hands featuring black central stripes. The applied Rado anchor logo is present and clean. Luminous material on the hands appears intact with slight, attractive aging, while the sweep second hand remains straight and clean. Case and Crystal The stainless steel case features an appealing tonneau-cushion geometry, characterized by a brushed top surface that transitions into polished flanks. The case displays honest vintage wear consistent with age, including moderate scratches and scuffs visible on the polished sides. The edges remain reasonably defined while showing signs of normal use. A polished bezel ring is seamlessly integrated into the case design, exhibiting light surface scratches consistent with the rest of the watch. The domed acrylic crystal is generally clear, presenting some minor surface scratches visible in reflections. The watch is fitted with its clearly signed Rado anchor crown, which shows minor wear on the knurling. Movement Powering the watch is the Caliber 2789, clearly stamped under the balance wheel, featuring 25 jewels. Visually, the movement presents in fair condition; while the base plates appear relatively clean, the rotor exhibits heavy spotting, tarnishing, and degradation. Despite the visual wear on the rotor, the timegrapher recorded +33+35s/day. Performing well within expected vintage tolerances; running strong and steady. Strap The watch is fitted with its original signed stainless steel bracelet, featuring an intricate multi-link design that adds significant character to the piece. The clasp is clearly signed with the Rado logo. It shows normal surface scratches and wear from use, presenting a highly distinctive period-correct aesthetic. The bracelet will accommodate a maximum wrist size of up to 19 cm. Condition Good vintage condition. The watch presents an exceptionally clean silver sunburst dial with its unusual layout preserved beautifully. The tonneau case displays honest, moderate scratches and scuffs primarily on the polished flanks, while retaining its overall shape. The original bracelet shows expected surface wear consistent with the case. Internally, the movement rotor exhibits heavy spotting and tarnishing, though the base plates remain relatively clean, and the mechanism is performing well within expected vintage tolerances. Dimensions The case measures 35 mm (excluding the crown). Remarks This Rado Voyager stands out through its highly unusual vertical day-date configuration and exceptionally preserved silver dial. Complete with its original, intricately designed signed bracelet, it represents a highly characterful and distinctive vintage timepiece. History The Rado Voyager line represented a key part of the brand's mid-century and 1970s catalog, offering robust and distinctive daily-wear timepieces during an era of bold design experimentation. While many Voyagers featured traditional layouts, examples utilizing the ETA 2789 caliber to display a vertical day-date format remain a fascinating footnote in the model's lineage. Rado's commitment to striking case geometries and elaborate bracelet designs during the 1970s helped cement their reputation for producing watches with immediate visual impact and enduring character. / Second Vintage SKU: RAD-VXX-0014
