About This Watch
Offered in this auction by Second Vintage
Equipped with the desirable Caliber 1441, this first-generation Omega Seamaster Professional 200M is a sought-after early iteration from the late 1980s. The watch is defined by its highly attractive, even creamy patina across the dial indices, offering a beautiful vintage character alongside its robust integrated design.
Brand: Omega
Model: Seamaster Professional 200M
Reference Number: 396.1042
Movement: Quartz Caliber 1441
Dial: Matte black with warm creamy patina
Case Size: 38mm (excluding the crown)
Case Material: Stainless Steel
Production Year: Late 1980s
Condition: Good vintage condition.
Dial and Hands
The matte black dial appears very clean and beautifully preserved, with crisp, fully intact printed text. Its painted luminous indices have aged to a warm, even creamy patina, creating a highly attractive visual contrast. The Mercedes-style hands feature luminous fills that match the dial indices well. Under macro inspection, the original hands show some minor surface degradation and dirt on the luminous material, while the metal frames display slight oxidation consistent with age-appropriate wear.
Case and Crystal
The brushed stainless steel case features polished accents and retains reasonably defined edges. It displays honest wear on a vintage tool watch, with moderate scratches and scuffs visible on the case flanks and lugs. The watch is fitted with a black bezel insert featuring silver numerals, which shows light scratches and scuffs. The outer steel bezel ring exhibits moderate wear and small dings, while the luminous pip at the twelve o'clock position remains present and appropriately aged. The signed Omega crown shows light wear. A flat crystal protects the dial and remains clear, with no significant scratches or chips visible.
Movement
Inside is the quartz Omega Caliber 1441, a six-jewel movement engraved with the Omega signature. The movement appears clean, with a battery present and no obvious signs of battery leakage or corrosion.
Strap
The watch is fitted with its original integrated stainless steel bracelet, secured by a signed Omega clasp. The bracelet presents typical wear, displaying moderate scratches and desk-diving marks throughout the links and clasp. It accommodates a maximum wrist size of 17.5cm.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The dial is exceptionally well preserved with beautiful luminous patina, while the hands show minor aging. The case, bezel, and original integrated bracelet display moderate scratches, scuffs, and dings consistent with honest use over the decades.
Dimensions
The case measures 38mm in diameter, excluding the crown.
Remarks
This Seamaster Professional 200M stands out due to its short-lived and highly regarded thermocompensated Caliber 1441 movement. Combined with the exceptional dial patina and the original integrated bracelet, it represents a highly appealing configuration of a classic design.
History
Introduced in the late 1980s, the Seamaster Professional 200M is affectionately known by collectors as the "Pre-Bond" Seamaster, bridging the gap between Omega's vintage divers and the later models popularized in film. The earliest iterations of this design are particularly prized for utilizing the thermocompensated Caliber 1441. Omega employed this advanced quartz movement for a very brief period, approximately in 1987 and 1988, before transitioning to the standard Caliber 1438. This brief production window makes the 1441-equipped examples a distinct and fascinating chapter in the Seamaster lineage.
