Dial and Hands
The well-preserved dial features a clean silver sunburst finish that catches the light beautifully. Applied indices with black inserts provide excellent contrast, complemented by crisp printing throughout the dial text. Intact luminous plots remain at the outer edge of the indices. The baton hands, also featuring black inserts and luminous strips, exhibit an aged character with visible oxidation and aging on the metal surfaces and luminous material.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel case presents a distinctive 1970s tonneau shape, integrating the bezel seamlessly into the design. It displays honest wear, retaining brushed top surfaces that transition to polished flanks. Moderate scratches and small dings are visible on the polished sides and edges, though the overall case geometry remains generally well-defined. The watch features a signed crown bearing the Longines name and winged hourglass logo, showing good definition on the knurling. A clear, domed acrylic crystal protects the dial, showing minimal visible wear or scratches.
Movement
Powering this timepiece is the Longines Caliber 6942, a manual-winding movement featuring 17 jewels. The plates and bridges are clean, with no visible corrosion or significant scratches, and the manual winding mechanism is clearly visible. The movement bears engravings reading LONGINES, 6942, SEVENTEEN 17 JEWELS, UNADJUSTED, 51681684, and WATCH Co SWISS. Recording +3+7s/dayMovement Serviced on 29/6/2026, it is exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece. The movement was serviced on 29 June 2026.
Strap
The watch is fitted with a black leather strap featuring white contrast stitching. This modern strap appears unworn or very lightly used, offering a comfortable and secure fit on the wrist.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The movement was serviced on 29 June 2026 and, supported by the recorded timegrapher result, is performing very strongly. The case shows honest wear with moderate scratches and small dings on the polished flanks, while retaining its well-defined tonneau geometry. The silver sunburst dial is well preserved and clean, though the baton hands show visible oxidation and aging. The crystal is clear with minimal wear, and the modern strap is in excellent, lightly used condition.
Dimensions
The case measures 36 mm in diameter, excluding the crown.
Remarks
This Longines Admiral HF offers a highly attractive silver sunburst dial and a distinct tonneau case. Powered by the reliable Caliber 6942 manual-wind movement, it represents a solid and well-preserved example of 1970s watchmaking.
History
The Longines Admiral HF Ref. 2303 was released in connection with Longines serving as the official timekeeper for the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. The HF designation references the high-frequency nature of the movement. The watch is powered by the Longines Caliber 6942, which features a specialized zero-reset hacking mechanism that stops the seconds hand exactly at 12 o'clock when the crown is pulled out, representing a notable technical feature of this era's production.
