Now available at auction from Second Vintage A well-preserved example of the sought-after Seikomatic Weekdater, this 1964 timepiece features a highly attractive layout with the day displayed prominently at six o'clock. Finding a Weekdater with such a clean dial and intact calendar displays is highly desirable among collectors, making this a compelling opportunity to acquire a classic 1960s Seiko design. Brand: Seiko Model: Seikomatic Weekdater Reference Number: 6206-8990 Serial Number: 4801710 Movement: Automatic, caliber 6206A, 26 jewels Dial: Silver sunburst with applied faceted indices and six o'clock day display Case Size: 37mm (excluding the crown) Case Material: Stainless Steel Production Year: 1964 Condition: Good vintage condition. Timegrapher: +20+25s/day, running strong and steady. Dial and Hands The dial presents a highly attractive and well-preserved Weekdater layout, characterized by its signature calendar configuration where the day window is isolated from the date and positioned above the six o'clock marker. The silver sunburst finish remains beautifully intact, providing a radiant backdrop for the clean, reflective applied faceted indices. The printed text is crisp and fully intact, while the day window features clear blue typography. Under macro inspection, minor dust and microscopic spotting are visible, though the dial remains exceptionally clean overall. The dauphine style hands are original and show age-appropriate oxidation, with visible spotting on the polished surfaces of the hour and minute hands, while the sweep second hand appears relatively clean. Case and Crystal The stainless steel case displays honest wear with its overall geometry preserved. It features a classic 1960s profile with a smooth integrated bezel, showing surface scratches and scuffs throughout. The case edges exhibit signs of wear and softening consistent with age. A recessed crown is positioned at four o'clock, presenting a visible knurled edge. The exterior caseback is relatively clean, featuring a clear serial number engraving, while the interior shows the reference number and stainless steel markings. The watch is fitted with a domed acrylic crystal that displays some light surface scratches and scuffs visible in angled lighting. Movement Powering the watch is the in-house Seiko caliber 6206A automatic movement, featuring twenty-six jewels. The movement presents beautifully with gold-tone plates and rotor, appearing very clean with no obvious signs of corrosion or heavy wear. The engravings remain crisp and clear across the surfaces. The 6206 movement family traces its lineage back to the 603 caliber of 1960 and features a quickset mechanism for the date alongside a semi-quickset mechanism for correcting the day. Performing well within expected vintage tolerances; running strong and steady. Strap The timepiece is fitted with a modern black leather strap featuring white contrast stitching. It appears to be in near-new condition, showing minimal wear. Condition Good vintage condition. The dial is exceptionally well preserved with crisp printing and minor microscopic spotting visible only under magnification, paired with original hands that display age-appropriate oxidation. The stainless steel case shows honest wear, surface scratches, and softened edges consistent with decades of use. The movement is clean and, supported by the timegrapher results, is running strong and steady. Dimensions The case measures 37mm in diameter, excluding the crown. Remarks This Seikomatic Weekdater is notable for its exceptionally clean silver sunburst dial and distinctive calendar layout. Powered by the reliable caliber 6206A and housed in a classic 1960s case, it offers a highly desirable configuration for collectors of vintage Japanese horology. History The Seikomatic Weekdater series represents a notable chapter in Seiko's mid-century development of automatic calendar watches. Utilizing the 400/6206 movement family, which evolved from the earlier 603 caliber of 1960, these timepieces introduced sophisticated calendar complications to the brand's catalog. The 6206 family is particularly recognized for its distinct layout, isolating the day display at six o'clock to create a balanced and highly legible aesthetic. Equipped with a quickset date and semi-quickset day mechanism, the Weekdater remains a celebrated design among vintage Seiko enthusiasts for its blend of mechanical capability and mid-century style.
