Serial Number: 6021364
Movement: Automatic, 17 jewels
Dial: Champagne with vertical brushing and applied indices
Case Size: 37 mm (excluding the crown)
Case Material: Gold-tone
Production Year: 1970s
Condition: Good vintage condition. Timegrapher: -22-25s/day, running strong and steady.
Dial and Hands
The champagne dial is highly attractive and well-preserved, featuring distinct vertical brushing that catches the light beautifully. It is detailed with an applied Rado anchor logo against a red background and applied faceted indices with black inserts. The printed text remains crisp and intact. While minor dust particles are visible under macro inspection, the dial presents exceptionally clean overall. The baton hands feature black central stripes and display visible oxidation and tarnishing on their metal surfaces, showing expected age-related character that contrasts with the clean dial. The luminous plots remain intact but exhibit age-appropriate darkening.
Case and Crystal
The faceted gold-tone case design retains its original geometric lines, displaying honest wear consistent with age. There are noticeable surface scratches and scuffs throughout, alongside plating wear and tarnishing visible on the sharp edges and lug corners. The signed crown bears the Rado anchor logo and shows corresponding plating wear on its fluted edges. The stainless steel caseback is well preserved, retaining clear engravings. A slightly raised flat acrylic crystal with a beveled edge protects the dial, remaining generally clear with minor surface scratches.
Movement
The 17-jewel automatic movement presents a clean overall appearance with no obvious signs of corrosion. It features a gold-tone rotor finished with engine turning and engraved with "RADO", "17 JEWELS SWISS", and "R 5". The plates and bridges appear well preserved. The timegrapher records a rate of -22-25s/day. Performing well within expected vintage tolerances; running strong and steady.
Strap
The watch is fitted with a black leather strap featuring yellow contrast stitching. It appears lightly used with minimal creasing and complements the warm tones of the dial nicely.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The dial is excellently preserved with striking texture, while the hands show natural oxidation. The gold-tone case exhibits noticeable surface scratches, scuffs, and visible plating loss on the sharp edges, lugs, and crown, yet retains its bold faceted shape. The crystal has minor scratches, and the movement is remarkably clean.
Dimensions
The case measures 37 mm (excluding the crown).
Remarks
This Rado Companion is notable for its highly attractive brushed dial and classic 1970s faceted case geometry. The combination of its clean automatic movement and honest aesthetic wear makes it an appealing vintage timepiece with distinct character.
