Dial and Hands
The dial features a striking vertical brushed finish that plays beautifully with the light, offering a refined silvered backdrop for the minimalist layout. It is adorned with printed black baton indices that provide excellent contrast and legibility. The classic Omega typography and logo are crisp and perfectly preserved. Upon close inspection, the dial remains exceptionally clean and evenly preserved, free from significant spotting or moisture damage, retaining its original factory appeal. The matching black stick hands remain sharp, with only light signs of aging around the central pinion, perfectly complementing the understated elegance of the dial.
Case and Crystal
The 25 mm cushion-shaped case features a classic profile with a seamless transition between the bezel and lugs. The gold-plated finish shows honest vintage wear, with visible brassing and plating loss along the lug tips, bezel edges, and case flanks, revealing the base metal beneath in a manner consistent with regular historical use. The original knurled crown, featuring the embossed Omega logo, remains well-defined and operates smoothly. The stainless steel snap-on caseback displays a clean vertically brushed finish with only light surface scratches. The acrylic crystal sits just above the bezel line and exhibits minor surface wear and light scratches commensurate with age, though it remains clear and allows for an unobstructed view of the dial.
Movement
Inside beats the Omega Caliber 625, a robust and reliable manual winding movement featuring seventeen jewels. The copper-colored plates and bridges are cleanly preserved and bear the correct Omega engravings, alongside the caliber stamp and the serial number 42097435, which dates production precisely to 1979. The movement is visually clean and presents beautifully. Performing well within expected vintage tolerances; running strong and steady. The timegrapher records a deviation of -31 to -33 seconds per day.
Strap
The watch is paired with a period-correct dark brown reptile-grain leather strap that complements the gold tones of the case perfectly. It is secured by a vintage gold-plated pin buckle featuring the prominent applied Omega logo, which shows some attractive aging and light wear to the plating.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The dial and hands are remarkably well-preserved, standing out as the highlight of the piece. The case exhibits visible wear, with noticeable fading and loss to the gold plating on the high-contact areas and lug edges. The movement remains in excellent visual shape and operates reliably.
Dimensions
Case width measures 25 mm excluding the crown.
Remarks
This Omega De Ville is a charming example of the brand's late-century dress watch offerings. Despite the visible wear to the case plating, the exceptional condition of the dial and the presence of the signed vintage buckle make it a highly appealing acquisition for enthusiasts of classic ladies timepieces.
History
The Omega De Ville line emerged in the 1960s as a sophisticated alternative to the brand's robust sports models, focusing on elegance, refined proportions, and urban versatility. By the 1970s, the De Ville collection had fully established its own distinct identity, often experimenting with geometric case shapes, such as the cushion profile seen here, and minimalist dial designs. These watches were crafted for an audience that appreciated subtle luxury and reliable Swiss mechanics, cementing the De Ville's legacy as a cornerstone of Omega's dress watch portfolio.
