Dial and Hands
The gold-tone dial is defined by a striking vertical striped texture that catches the light beautifully. The surface is remarkably clean, showing minimal signs of age, and features crisp black printing. Applied black indices are in excellent condition, providing strong legibility. The contrasting black stick hands complement the indices perfectly and exhibit only minor surface wear visible under magnification.
Case and Crystal
The gold-plated case, fitted with a stainless steel caseback and an integrated smooth bezel, displays honest wear consistent with its age. There are visible scratches and handling marks throughout, along with some plating wear on the lug edges and case flanks. The unsigned crown shows noticeable plating wear on its fluting. The domed acrylic crystal exhibits light surface scratches visible at certain angles, which do not detract from the clear view of the textured dial.
Movement
Inside the slim case is the automatic Omega Caliber 711, featuring clean copper-colored plating. The rotor and bridges show minimal wear, while the screws and jewels remain in good visual condition. The movement is engraved with its 24-jewel count and adjustment to two positions. The timegrapher records +8+10s/day. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece.
Strap
The watch is fitted with a casual black leather strap featuring contrast stitching and an unsigned clasp. The strap exhibits light wear and pairs nicely with the black accents on the dial.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The dial and hands are excellently preserved, maintaining their striking texture and high contrast. The case and bezel show honest wear, including visible scratches and plating loss on the lugs, flanks, and crown. The movement presents cleanly and, supported by the timegrapher data, is performing very strongly.
Dimensions
The case measures 35 mm (excluding the crown).
Remarks
This De Ville stands out through its highly textured dial and perfectly contrasting black hands and markers, ensuring excellent legibility. The ultra-thin Caliber 711 automatic movement allows the watch to maintain a refined, slender profile, making it a compelling choice for enthusiasts of classic 1970s design.
History
The Omega De Ville originally started as a dress model within the Seamaster line before becoming an independent collection focused on elegant designs in 1967. The reference 151.0039 was developed with a slim case profile, leaning into the sophisticated dress watch aesthetic of the era. It is powered by the Omega Caliber 711, an automatic movement featuring a frequency of 19,800 vibrations per hour and a power reserve of approximately 42 hours. This caliber was instrumental in allowing Omega to produce notably thin automatic dress watches during the period.
