Now available at auction from Second Vintage A sought-after configuration from Seiko’s golden era of design, this Lord Matic features a vibrant blue gradient dial paired with a distinctive faceted crystal. The striking fumé finish and angular 1970s case geometry create a compelling visual presence that resonates strongly with vintage enthusiasts. Brand: Seiko Model: Lord Matic Reference Number: 5606-8060 Serial Number: 478606 Movement: Automatic, Caliber 5606A, 23 Jewels Dial: Vibrant blue gradient (fumé) with applied faceted indices Case Size: 36mm (excluding the crown) Case Material: Stainless Steel Production Year: 1974 Condition: Good vintage condition. Movement serviced on 16 August 2026. Timegrapher: -5-7s/day, performing remarkably well. Dial and Hands The exceptionally clean and striking dial features a vibrant blue gradient fumé finish that catches the light beautifully. It is detailed with applied faceted indices containing white central inserts, perfectly matched by the applied Seiko and LM logos. A clean day and date window with English text sits well-balanced at the three o'clock position. The dial presents remarkably well, with no visible spotting, staining, or degradation. The baton style hands feature matching white central stripes and a clean finish, showing no visible oxidation or corrosion, remaining well-preserved and perfectly complementing the dial markers. Case and Crystal The stainless steel case showcases a classic angular 1970s design, featuring brushed top surfaces that transition into polished flanks. The case displays honest vintage wear while preserving its distinctive geometry, with case lines remaining relatively well-defined. Moderate scratches and scuffs are present on the polished sides, consistent with its age. A polished steel bezel ring secures the crystal and exhibits light surface scratches matching the overall case wear. The partially recessed, unsigned crown sits neatly along the case flank. The watch is fitted with a distinctive multi-faceted crystal that is generally clear, though it does bear some minor surface scratches visible under certain lighting angles. Movement Powering this timepiece is the automatic Seiko caliber 5606A, featuring 23 jewels. The movement plates and rotor are clean, displaying the clear Seiko, 23 Jewels, and Japan 5606A engravings. There are no obvious signs of corrosion on the movement itself, though some dirt and grime accumulation is visible on the case rim outside the gasket seating area. Recording -5-7s/day on the timegrapher. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece. The movement was serviced on 16 August 2026. Strap The watch is fitted with a period correct stainless steel block-link bracelet that suits the angular case design perfectly. It features a brushed finish with polished center accents. The bracelet shows moderate wear and likely some stretch consistent with age, accommodating a maximum wrist size of up to 17.5cm. Condition Good vintage condition. The movement was serviced on 16 August 2026 and, supported by the recorded timegrapher result, is performing very strongly. The dial and hands are exceptionally well-preserved and free of visible degradation. The case retains its sharp 1970s geometry while showing honest age-related wear, including moderate scratches and scuffs on the polished flanks. The faceted crystal has minor surface scratches, and the period correct bracelet displays moderate wear and stretch. While the movement itself is clean and free of visible corrosion, there is some dirt accumulation on the outer case rim. Dimensions Case Size: 36mm (excluding the crown) Remarks This Lord Matic offers a highly desirable combination of 1970s design elements. The pristine blue gradient dial, the character of the faceted crystal, and the strong performance of the 5606 caliber make this a compelling choice for collectors of classic Japanese watchmaking. History Introduced in the late 1960s, the Seiko Lord Matic line was positioned as a premium offering just below the King Seiko and Grand Seiko ranges. The watches utilized the highly regarded 5600 series calibers, known for their slim profile, sophisticated automatic winding, and overall reliability. During the 1970s, Seiko embraced bold case geometries, vibrant colored dials, and experimental crystal shapes, defining an era of forward-thinking design. Today, well-preserved examples featuring colored gradient dials and intact faceted crystals are highly prized by collectors for their distinct period character and robust mechanical foundations.
