Dial and Hands The striking and well-preserved silver sunburst dial is presented in very clean condition, free of visible spotting, staining, or moisture damage. It features applied indices enhanced by blue accents, which coordinate perfectly with the blue printed minute track and the blue central seconds hand. A vibrant red date display at three o'clock provides a sharp contrast against the silver dial. The baton style hour and minute hands are also in excellent condition, displaying a clean finish with no visible oxidation. Case and Crystal The stainless steel case exhibits honest vintage wear, defined by its 1970s cushion shape. The top surface retains a brushed finish, while the polished flanks show moderate scratches and scuffs consistent with age, though there are no major deep dents or structural damage. The watch is fitted with a signed crown bearing the Rado anchor logo, which remains in good condition with defined knurling. Above the dial sits a domed acrylic crystal that is clear and free of major distortion, showing only minor superficial surface wear when viewed under direct light. Movement Inside the case beats a 25-jewel automatic movement based on the renowned ETA 2824 caliber. The movement visually presents in excellent condition, with clean plates and a clean rotor showing no visible corrosion or heavy oxidation. The caliber is properly engraved with the Rado name and jewel count. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece. The recorded timegrapher result of -7-10s/day confirms its strong and reliable operation. Strap The watch is paired with a complementary modern black leather strap. It features white contrast stitching and shows light signs of use, pairing handsomely with the cushion case and silver dial. Condition Excellent vintage condition. The dial and hands are exceptionally clean and well-preserved, showing vibrant colors and no notable aging. The stainless steel case displays honest wear with moderate scuffs and scratches on the polished flanks, yet remains structurally sound without deep dents. The signed crown and domed acrylic crystal are both in very good order. The automatic movement is clean and running with impressive accuracy on the timegrapher. Dimensions The case measures 36mm in diameter (excluding the crown). Remarks This Rado Mannheim offers a fantastic opportunity to acquire an uncommon 1970s model with exceptional dial character. The combination of the silver sunburst finish, vibrant blue accents, and the red date wheel creates a memorable aesthetic, backed by a robust and highly accurate automatic caliber. History During the 1970s, Rado produced a wide array of distinctive and adventurous case designs, earning a reputation for unconventional aesthetics and robust engineering. The Mannheim is a less frequently seen model line from this era, utilizing the popular cushion case geometry that defined much of the decade's watchmaking. By employing the dependable ETA 2824 base caliber, Rado ensured that these visually striking timepieces were matched by proven mechanical reliability, making them highly appreciated by collectors of vintage Swiss watches today.
