Now available at auction from Second Vintage This distinctive 1970s Rado Cornell commands attention with its striking vertically brushed black dial and classic cushion case geometry. Highlighted by a bright red date display and the signature Rado anchor logo, it is a well-preserved example of 1970s design powered by a clean automatic movement. Brand: Rado Model: Rado Cornell (11928) Movement: Automatic, caliber 2783 Dial: Black with vertical brushed texture, applied indices, and red date display Case Size: 36 mm (excluding the crown) Case Material: Steel Production Year: 1970s Condition: Excellent vintage condition. Timegrapher: +13+16s/day, performing remarkably well. Dial and Hands The striking black dial features a highly attractive vertical brushed texture that catches the light beautifully. It is accented by applied silver-tone indices with white inserts and crisp white printed text. A distinctive red date display sits neatly at the three o'clock position, while the applied Rado anchor logo with its red background adds a vibrant touch of character. The dial is exceptionally well-preserved, showing no visible spotting or damage. The silver-tone baton hands, complete with white inserts and a sweep second hand, remain in clean condition with minimal signs of aging. Case and Crystal The 36 mm cushion-shaped steel case features a polished finish and an integrated polished bezel area. It displays honest wear consistent with age, presenting moderate scratches and scuffs visible throughout, particularly on the bezel and flanks, though no major deep dents are observed. The watch retains its signed crown, bearing the Rado anchor logo and showing light wear. A domed acrylic crystal protects the dial, exhibiting some light surface scratches and scuffs visible in reflections. Movement Inside the case beats a gold-tone automatic movement, the caliber 2783. The movement presents a remarkably clean appearance with no visible corrosion or significant wear, and the rotor and bridges remain well-preserved. It features crisp engravings reading RADO, 25 JEWELS, and SWISS. Recording +13+16s/day on the timegrapher, it is exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece. Strap The watch is paired with a black textured leather strap featuring white contrast stitching. The strap complements the dial perfectly and shows light signs of use. Condition Excellent vintage condition. The dial and hands are remarkably well-preserved, maintaining their sharp textures and clean finishes. The steel case displays honest, moderate scratching and scuffing consistent with age, primarily along the flanks and bezel, but remains structurally sound without deep dents. The crystal shows light surface wear. Supported by the recorded timegrapher result, the clean automatic movement is performing very strongly. Dimensions The case measures 36 mm in diameter. This measurement strictly excludes the crown. Remarks This Rado Cornell stands out through its compelling vertically brushed dial and vibrant red date display. Driven by a clean and highly capable ETA-based automatic movement, it offers a fantastic opportunity to acquire a classic 1970s Rado design with strong mechanical performance. History During the 1970s, Rado established a reputation for distinctive case geometries, striking dial textures, and bold visual elements. The Cornell model line perfectly reflects this era of design confidence, offering a compelling blend of robust steel construction and engaging dial aesthetics. Powered by reliable Swiss automatic calibers, these timepieces provided excellent mechanical dependability alongside their unique styling, remaining highly appreciated by collectors of 1970s horology today.
