Dial and Hands
The champagne dial features an attractive vertical brushed texture that interacts beautifully with the light. Applied baton indices are fitted with black inserts, complementing the design of the hands for excellent legibility. The dial printing remains crisp and fully intact, presenting as a well-preserved surface. Under macro inspection, minor dust particles are visible. The original stick hands also feature black inserts and display noticeable age-related oxidation and pitting across their metal surfaces.
Case and Crystal
The 20-micron gold-plated case displays honest wear with moderate scratches consistent with its age. Visible age-related tarnish and oxidation have developed on the case flanks and around the integrated bezel area, giving the watch a distinct vintage character. The stainless steel caseback remains in good condition, showing only light scratches. A flat crystal protects the dial and remains clear, with no major scratches or chips visible. The watch is fitted with the correct style crown, which features a recessed center pusher specifically designed for time setting on the Caliber 1342.
Movement
The watch is powered by the Omega Caliber 1342 quartz movement. The caliber presents very cleanly, with no obvious signs of battery leakage or severe corrosion. It bears clear engravings reading OMEGA, SWISS, SEVEN 7 JEWELS, UNADJUSTED, alongside the caliber and serial numbers. A battery is currently present in the movement.
Strap
The watch is paired with a black leather strap featuring contrast stitching. The strap appears to be in new or near-new condition, providing a crisp and comfortable fit.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The 20-micron gold-plated case and integrated bezel show honest wear, moderate scratches, and visible tarnish. The brushed champagne dial remains well-preserved and highly attractive, while the original hands exhibit noticeable oxidation and pitting. The quartz movement appears clean and visually intact.
Dimensions
The case measures 35 mm in diameter, excluding the crown.
Remarks
This classic late-70s Omega De Ville Quartz offers a compelling mix of refined aesthetics and technical intrigue. The vertically brushed champagne dial provides a striking visual presence, while the specialized Caliber 1342 movement makes this an appealing choice for enthusiasts of early Swiss quartz development.
History
During the late 1970s, the Swiss watch industry was undergoing a massive transformation. Rather than simply adopting off-the-shelf electronic movements, Omega invested heavily in developing sophisticated, in-house quartz calibers. The Caliber 1342 is a prime example of this era, featuring an unusual time-setting mechanism that requires a specialized recessed-pusher crown to advance the minutes. The De Ville collection, traditionally reserved for Omega's elegant and dress-oriented designs, was the perfect platform for these precise new movements. Today, these early quartz pieces offer a fascinating window into a pivotal period of horological evolution.
