Dial and Hands
The dial presents a well-preserved pie-pan configuration, featuring applied gold-tone indices and the classic Omega logo. The printing remains clean with beautifully crisp text. Under magnification, very minor surface dust and micro-spotting are visible, adding to the authentic character of the dial. The aged dauphine hands display visible oxidation and spotting on their gold-tone surfaces, matching the vintage aesthetic of the timepiece.
Case and Crystal
The case features a gold-capped top over a stainless steel body, defined by Omega's distinctive dog-leg lugs. The surfaces exhibit honest vintage wear, with moderate surface scratches and handling marks throughout. While the edges show signs of wear, they retain decent definition. The smooth gold-tone integrated bezel displays light surface scratches consistent with the rest of the case. Turning the watch over reveals the gold observatory medallion present on the caseback. The watch is fitted with a gold-tone decagonal scalloped crown, signed with the Omega logo. A clear domed acrylic crystal protects the dial, showing minimal visible wear and no significant scratches or cracks.
Movement
The watch is powered by the chronometer-certified automatic Caliber 561, featuring clean copper-colored plating. The movement displays minor wear marks on the rotor edge, while the screws and bridges remain in good condition. The caliber is clearly engraved with Omega Watch Co Swiss, twenty-four 24 jewels, adjusted five (5) positions and temperature, alongside the caliber and serial numbers. The timegrapher records a rate of +18+20s/day. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece.
Strap
The watch is fitted with a black leather strap featuring contrast stitching, offering a casual leather character that complements the gold-capped case.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The dial is well-preserved, retaining crisp printing alongside minor micro-spotting and natural oxidation on the dauphine hands. The gold-capped case and signature dog-leg lugs display moderate surface scratches and handling marks, representing honest wear while maintaining decent overall definition. The domed acrylic crystal remains clear and free of significant marks. Supported by the recorded timegrapher result, the movement is performing very strongly.
Dimensions
The case measures 34 mm (excluding the crown).
Remarks
This Constellation offers the highly desired combination of a pie-pan dial and dog-leg lugs. The presence of the gold observatory medallion and the chronometer-certified Caliber 561 make this a compelling choice for any collector of mid-century Omega references.
History
The Omega Constellation was introduced in 1952 as the brand's flagship chronometer line, distinguished by its high-grade movements and the signature observatory medallion on the caseback. During the 1960s, the introduction of the pie-pan dial paired with dog-leg lugs created one of the most recognizable and admired silhouettes in vintage watch collecting. The Caliber 561 provided exceptional precision and reliability, cementing the Constellation's reputation as a premium chronometer.
