Dial and Hands
The silver dial presents a highly patinated character, with noticeable spotting distributed evenly across the surface. It features applied baton indices detailed with black inserts, and a framed date window is positioned at three o'clock. All original typography, including the Omega logo and "T SWISS MADE T" designation, remains fully legible. The dauphine-style hands, also featuring black inserts, show visible oxidation and surface wear, while the sweep seconds hand displays minor aging consistent with the dial's overall aesthetic.
Case and Crystal
The 34 mm stainless steel case displays honest wear, with moderate scratches and handling marks consistent with its age. The lugs retain generally good shape, providing a solid profile on the wrist. A polished steel bezel frames the domed acrylic crystal, which remains clear with only minor surface scratches and no major cracks or chips. The knurled crown is clearly signed with the Omega logo. On the reverse, the caseback features a well-preserved Hippocampus medallion, retaining distinct relief.
Movement
Inside beats the Omega Caliber 565 automatic movement, featuring 24 jewels. The signature copper-colored finish remains bright and clean, with the rotor and bridges appearing well preserved. There are no obvious signs of corrosion or heavy tool marks visible on the assembly. Engravings including the caliber number and serial 30294203 are clearly present. The timegrapher recorded -12-15s/day. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece.
Strap
The watch is fitted with a black leather strap featuring white contrast stitching. It shows light wear and lends a casual character to the timepiece.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The watch displays honest wear throughout its stainless steel case, with moderate scratches and marks present. The dial exhibits noticeable spotting and patina, while the hands show corresponding oxidation. The crystal and polished bezel bear light surface scratches. The movement is remarkably clean and, supported by the recorded timegrapher result, is performing very strongly.
Dimensions
The case measures 34 mm in diameter (excluding the crown).
Remarks
This Seamaster appeals through its distinctive patinated dial and the excellent preservation of its caseback medallion. Supported by strong timegrapher results from the Caliber 565 movement, it is a highly wearable and mechanically robust example from the late 1960s to early 1970s era.
History
The Omega Seamaster line was introduced in 1948, initially designed as a robust timepiece for active individuals. By the late 1960s, the collection had expanded to include refined, everyday models like the reference 166.002. These watches utilized Omega's excellent 500-series automatic movements, which are highly regarded by collectors for their durability, efficient winding, and precise timekeeping. The Caliber 565 is particularly noted for its practical functionality, making it a reliable choice for daily wear.
