Dial and Hands
The silver sunburst dial is heavily patinated, featuring prominent, heavy spotting distributed evenly across the entire surface. This strong patina provides a striking, organic character to the watch. The applied indices and Omega logo remain completely intact, while the printed text is crisp and fully legible. The stick hands feature black inserts and show minor oxidation and dust visible under macro inspection, aging in a manner visually consistent with the dial.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel case displays honest wear consistent with its age, showing moderate surface scratches and handling marks. The lugs retain generally good shape but exhibit clear signs of wear. The smooth steel bezel is integrated with the case and shows light scratches matching the case's condition. The original Omega-signed crown features well-defined knurling. Turning the watch over reveals a beautifully preserved caseback with a clear, sharply defined Seahorse medallion. The inner caseback is correctly stamped with Omega markings and the 165008 reference number. The domed acrylic crystal is clear, presenting minor superficial scratches with no deep cracks or chips.
Movement
Inside beats the ultra-thin Omega Caliber 711 automatic movement, a refined mechanism stamped with 24 jewels and adjusted to two positions. The copper-colored plating is bright and clean, with the rotor and bridges showing clean finishing. There are no obvious signs of corrosion, moisture damage, or mishandling. Recording +10+15s/day on the timegrapher, the movement is exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece.
Strap
The watch is fitted with a modern brown leather strap featuring white contrast stitching. The strap appears unworn or very lightly used.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The stainless steel case displays honest wear consistent with age, including moderate surface scratches and handling marks, while retaining good lug shape and a sharply defined Seahorse medallion. The heavily patinated dial exhibits prominent spotting distributed evenly across its silver sunburst finish. The acrylic crystal and bezel show light, superficial scratches. The movement presents exceptionally cleanly.
Dimensions
The case measures 34 mm in diameter, excluding the crown.
Remarks
This Seamaster De Ville delivers classic mid-century proportions and the mechanical sophistication of the ultra-thin Caliber 711. The well-preserved Seahorse medallion and the beautifully even spotting across the dial make this a standout, character-rich example of a beloved Omega configuration.
History
The Seamaster De Ville line emerged in the 1960s, successfully merging the robust, sporty heritage of the Seamaster collection with the refined, elegant aesthetics of the De Ville name. Known for their versatile designs, these watches quickly became a staple of mid-century horology. The introduction of the ultra-thin Caliber 711 automatic movement further elevated the model, allowing for a remarkably slim profile on the wrist while maintaining Omega's high standards of mechanical precision.
