Dial and Hands
The striking and well-preserved dial is finished in a deep blue tone with a distinct horizontal brushed texture. Applied faceted indices, the Seiko logo, and the LM logo provide excellent depth and contrast. The dial remains in clean overall condition with no significant spotting, staining, or damage visible. The baton hands feature luminous inserts and show noticeable age-related oxidation, spotting, and surface wear on their metal finish, while the luminous material appears intact but aged.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel case displays honest vintage wear with preserved geometry, featuring polished flanks and brushed lug tops. Case lines and transitions remain relatively well-defined, though the surfaces show moderate scratches and minor dings consistent with age and use. The smooth polished bezel is integrated nicely with the case design and exhibits light surface scratches consistent with the rest of the watch. An unsigned crown with a knurled edge sits partially recessed into the case flank. The flat crystal is clear, presenting minor surface scratches and dust, with no major chips or cracks visible.
Movement
The watch is powered by the automatic caliber 5606A, featuring a visible rotor and engravings that denote the Seiko signature and 23 jewels. The movement presents a clean appearance with no obvious signs of corrosion or heavy oxidation, and the screws and plates appear in good condition. Recording -4-6s/day on the timegrapher. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece.
Strap
The watch is fitted with a black leather strap featuring a crocodile grain pattern. The strap shows light wear and creasing from use.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The dial is exceptionally clean and well-preserved, standing out as a highlight of the watch. The case retains clear geometry while showing moderate surface scratches and minor dings. The hands display visible oxidation and spotting, and the crystal has minor surface scratches.
Dimensions
The case measures 36 mm in diameter, excluding the crown.
Remarks
This Lord Matic offers a beautiful intersection of reliable 1970s Seiko engineering and highly attractive dial finishing. The combination of the deep blue brushed dial and the practical day-date complication makes it an incredibly enjoyable daily wearer. It is a fantastic opportunity to acquire a character-rich vintage Seiko with strong mechanical performance.
History
The Seiko Lord Matic line is a celebrated chapter in the brand's catalog, bridging the gap between standard models and the high-end King and Grand Seiko ranges. Known examples of the 5606-7191 reference date from the early 1970s. This reference is distinguished by its day-date complication, and the series was produced with various dial executions, including silver sunburst, gradient brown, and silver linen. Powered by the reliable 5606A automatic caliber, which was produced in both 23 and 25-jewel variants, the Lord Matic remains highly appreciated by collectors for its sophisticated design language and enduring mechanical quality.
