Dial and Hands
The dial features a brilliant silver sunburst finish that catches the light beautifully, providing a vibrant backdrop for the applied metallic elements. The applied Seiko and LM logos are crisp, accompanied by the printed Automatic script, twenty-five jewels designation, and the classic Suwa factory symbol. The applied baton hour markers and matching handset both feature striking black center inserts, enhancing legibility against the bright dial. A framed day and date aperture sits cleanly at the three o'clock position. Careful visual inspection reveals isolated surface wear, specifically noting dark age spots and marks on the left side of the dial near the eight and nine o'clock hour markers. The dial text along the bottom edge reads Japan 5606 and 5260R, remaining perfectly legible and fully intact.
Case and Crystal
The television-style square stainless steel case is highly architectural, defined by its broad brushed top surface and deeply notched, stepped lug profile. The transition between the vertical brushing on the upper bezel and the highly polished sloping case flanks remains distinctly defined. The case exhibits honest signs of normal vintage wear, including scattered hairline scratches and minor handling marks consistent with its age, but it has completely avoided over-polishing. The original unsigned ribbed crown sits slightly recessed at three o'clock and operates smoothly. The most captivating feature of this watch is its pronounced faceted mineral crystal. The prismatic cuts across the crystal surface create dynamic, three-dimensional visual distortions of the dial beneath, presenting wonderfully with only very minor superficial wear.
Movement
This timepiece is powered by the respected Seiko automatic caliber 5606. The stainless steel caseback is solidly preserved and features crisp, deep factory engravings, clearly displaying the Seiko branding, water-resistant marking, reference number 5606-5080, and the serial number 272596, dating the watch to July 1972. Running and operational, offering reliable vintage performance. Current timegrapher results measure between +25 and +30 seconds per day incidating very healthy movement performance.
Strap
The watch is fitted with a period-correct black leather strap featuring an embossed crocodile grain pattern, contrasting red stitching on the reverse side, and a classic stainless steel pin buckle. The strap shows noticeable signs of previous wear, including creasing across the surface and around the sizing holes, but remains fully functional and pairs elegantly with the sharp geometric lines of the steel case.
Condition
This watch is in good vintage condition. The unpolished stainless steel case remains sharp and structurally impressive, showcasing excellent factory finishes despite expected superficial scratches. While the silver sunburst dial does exhibit the aforementioned spotting on the left side, the overall aesthetic impact of the watch is undeniable, largely due to the mesmerizing faceted crystal and the strong architectural presence on the wrist.

Remarks
The reference 5606-5080 represents a remarkably creative era for Japanese watchmaking, where conservative round cases were frequently traded for daring squares, hexagons, and asymmetrical profiles. The execution of the deeply faceted crystal elevates this piece from a simple daily wearer to an interactive piece of mid-century design.
History
Introduced in the late 1960s, the Lord Matic line was positioned as a premium offering, sitting directly beneath the prestigious King Seiko and Grand Seiko tiers. Built to demand excellence in both chronometry and style, the Lord Matic range utilized the impressive 5600 series automatic movement, a caliber family so reliable and well-engineered that Seiko later adapted it for use in their highest-tier models. During the 1970s, the Lord Matic catalog became a canvas for Seiko to experiment with striking case geometries, textured dials, and elaborately cut crystals, leaving behind a legacy of deeply fascinating designs for the modern vintage enthusiast.
