Dial and Hands
The watch features a striking silver dial with a radiant sunburst finish that catches the light beautifully from every angle. It is appointed with applied faceted steel baton hour markers, each featuring a black central insert that provides excellent legibility. The applied Tudor shield logo sits proudly at twelve o'clock, above crisp black sans-serif typography. At three o'clock, the dial reveals one of its most desirable characteristics, a roulette date wheel featuring alternating red and black numerals, framed by a beveled date window. The matching steel baton hands carry the same black central striping as the indices. The dial is exceptionally clean across its main expanse, presenting a vibrant and even finish, with only minor age-related accumulation and slight surface wear visible along the extreme outer periphery where the dial meets the rehaut.
Case and Crystal
The 34 millimeter stainless steel Oyster case retains strong, handsome proportions. The case architecture features brushed lug tops that transition cleanly into polished case flanks, complete with classic drilled lug holes for easy strap changes. The watch is crowned by a distinctive stainless steel engine-turned bezel, characterized by fine ribbing interspersed with smooth, raised blocks at the five-minute intervals, adding brilliant texture to the watch face. The case is fitted with a Rolex-signed screw-down crown bearing the iconic coronet, while the screw-down caseback is deeply engraved with "Original Oyster Case by Rolex Geneva." The watch is topped with a domed acrylic crystal featuring a cyclops magnifier over the date, which presents clearly with only faint surface handling marks. The case exhibits honest signs of wear consistent with its vintage nature, maintaining excellent structural integrity.
Movement
Inside beats the Tudor Auto-Prince automatic movement, clearly stamped as the caliber 2484 under the balance wheel. This robust 25-jewel Swiss mechanism features a cleanly finished rotor and rhodium-plated bridges adorned with subtle perlage. The movement presents beautifully in the macro photography, showing clean surfaces and well-preserved screw heads. Performing well within expected vintage tolerances; running strong and steady. The timegrapher results indicate a performance of -20 to -25 seconds per day.
Strap
The watch is paired with a period correct stainless steel Jubilee-style bracelet. The five-link configuration features polished center links bordered by brushed outer links, offering excellent articulation and a highly comfortable drape on the wrist. The bracelet shows normal vintage stretch and surface wear, accommodating a wrist size of up to 17.5 centimeters.
Condition
This timepiece is presented in excellent vintage condition. The silver sunburst dial is a magnificent focal point, elevated significantly by the rare roulette date wheel, remaining remarkably clean save for the aforementioned minor edge wear. The stainless steel Oyster case and engine-turned bezel retain excellent definition, displaying normal, honest handling marks that speak to a life of careful wear. The movement is visually clean and operates with reliable vintage precision.
