    About This Watch

Now available at auction from Second Vintage This classic 1970s Rado design stands out with an unusual vertical day-date layout positioned at 6 o'clock. Framed by a cushion case, the well-preserved vertically brushed silver-tone dial offers a highly attractive aesthetic that defines the watchmaking character of the era. Brand: Rado Model: Green Horse Reference Number: 11816 Movement: Mechanical automatic, ETA caliber 2789, 25 jewels Dial: Vertically brushed silver-tone with vertical day-date display Case Size: 38 mm (excluding the crown) Case Material: Gold-tone Production Year: 1970s Condition: Fair vintage condition. Movement serviced on 21 July 2026. Timegrapher: -30-35s/day, running strong and steady. Important Note The watch is fitted with a Rado-signed “Golden Horse” caseback, which is not correct for this Green Horse configuration and should therefore be considered a replacement component. Please review the caseback photographs before bidding. Dial and Hands The dial features a highly attractive, vertically brushed silver-tone finish that remains wonderfully preserved and clean, showing no significant visible flaws. Applied gold-tone indices with black inserts provide clear contrast, complemented by the distinctive vertical day and English date windows positioned at 6 o'clock. An applied Rado anchor logo sits at 9 o'clock. The gold-tone baton hands feature matching black inserts and display honest aging, with minor surface oxidation visible under magnification. Case and Crystal The gold-tone cushion-shaped case is heavily worn, exhibiting severe plating loss on the flanks and edges that reveals the base metal beneath. A fluted gold-tone bezel surrounds the dial, showing visible plating wear and a softening of its fluted edges. Scratches and handling marks are present throughout the case surfaces. The caseback is engraved "Golden Horse," indicating it is likely a mismatched component for this Green Horse dial. The watch is fitted with a signed Rado anchor crown, which displays significant plating wear along its edges. A domed acrylic crystal protects the dial, remaining clear with only minor superficial scratches. Movement The watch is powered by an automatic ETA caliber 2789 movement, signed Rado with 25 jewels. The caliber number and ETA shield are visible under the balance wheel. The movement maintains a clean overall appearance with no obvious signs of severe corrosion or damage. The timegrapher records -30-35s/day. Performing well within expected vintage tolerances; running strong and steady. The movement was serviced on 21 July 2026. Strap The watch is fitted with a brown leather strap featuring contrast stitching. The strap shows light wear and remains in serviceable condition. Condition Fair vintage condition. The movement was serviced on 21 July 2026 and, supported by the recorded timegrapher result, is running strong and steady. The dial is in excellent condition, remaining remarkably clean and attractive. The hands show minor, honest oxidation. The case and bezel exhibit heavy wear, marked by severe gold-tone plating loss that exposes the base metal on the flanks and edges, along with general scratches. The signed crown also shows significant plating wear, and the caseback is noted as a likely mismatch. Dimensions The case measures 38 mm (excluding the crown). Remarks This Rado offers a highly attractive brushed silver dial and an unusual vertical day-date configuration. Despite the heavy wear to the case plating, the dial remains a beautifully preserved focal point. History During the 1970s, Rado was celebrated for its robust designs and dependable Swiss mechanical movements. The Green Horse line was a prominent part of their catalog, offering practical everyday wear with distinct aesthetic touches. The ETA 2789 movement utilized in this model was notable for introducing a quickset mechanism for both the day and date, a highly convenient innovation for the era that improved the functionality of mechanical timepieces. / Second Vintage SKU: RAD-RGH-0067
