Dial and Hands
The brown dial is the defining feature of this watch, exhibiting severe lacquer crazing and cracking across its entire surface to create a highly textured 'spider' dial effect. An applied Rado anchor logo sits at 12 o'clock, complementing the applied baton indices fitted with white inserts. A date window at 3 o'clock displays red numerals. The original baton hands feature white central stripes and show light oxidation and aging on their metal surfaces.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel tonneau-shaped case features brushed upper surfaces contrasting with polished flanks. It displays honest wear consistent with age, showing moderate scratches and small dings, particularly on the polished sides. A polished fixed bezel ring is smoothly integrated into the case design, bearing scratches and light wear. The fluted crown is signed with the Rado anchor logo and shows light wear. A domed acrylic crystal protects the dial, presenting light surface scratches visible under direct light.
Movement
Beating within is the automatic ETA 2824 caliber, engraved with 25 jewels and the ETA shield logo, featuring a decorated rotor. The movement presents a clean overall appearance with no obvious signs of corrosion or damage. Performing well within expected vintage tolerances; running strong and steady.
Strap
The watch is fitted with its original signed stainless steel link bracelet, maintaining its integrated-style character. The bracelet secures with a signed Rado folding clasp and displays moderate surface scratches across the links and clasp. It accommodates a maximum wrist size of 19cm.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The case and integrated bezel show honest age-related wear, with moderate scratches and small dings most notable on the polished flanks. The dial exhibits severe lacquer crazing and cracking throughout, creating a distinct aesthetic, while the hands display light oxidation. The domed acrylic crystal has light surface scratches. The original signed bracelet shows moderate surface scratches. Supported by the recorded timegrapher result, the movement is running strong and steady.
Dimensions
The case measures 35mm (excluding the crown).
Remarks
This Lumino is defined by its dramatic spider dial, offering a highly individualized visual presence. Complete with its original signed bracelet and powered by a robust ETA 2824 movement, it is a charismatic example of 1970s watchmaking.
History
The Lumino model represents Rado's distinctive 1970s design language, an era characterized by the use of faceted crystals, exotic dial materials, and the brand's signature rotating anchor logo. During this period, Rado cemented its reputation for unconventional aesthetics and robust mechanical reliability, producing timepieces that remain highly recognizable to collectors today.
