Dial and Hands
The silver dial is well-preserved, featuring an attractive vertical brushing that adds distinct character to the watch. It is detailed with applied indices containing black inserts, alongside clean dial text and a sharp date window. Minor dust or spotting is visible near the very edge of the dial. The original stick hands match the indices with their own black inserts and display minor oxidation visible under magnification.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel tonneau case presents honest wear consistent with its age. The brushed top surfaces transition cleanly to polished flanks, with moderate scratches and small dings visible on the lugs. A polished smooth bezel is integrated into the case geometry, showing light scratches and minor dings along its edge. The caseback is distinguished by a crisp Seamaster hippocampus medallion. The watch is operated via a signed Omega crown in good condition with defined knurling, and is fitted with a clear domed acrylic crystal with no major scratches or cracks visible.
Movement
Inside beats the automatic Omega Caliber 1010, finished with the brand's signature copper-colored plating. The movement maintains a clean appearance with no obvious corrosion, while the rotor shows minor surface marks. It is correctly engraved with Omega signatures, noting 17 jewels and the matching serial number 42346327. The timegrapher reads +6+8s/day. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece.
Strap
The watch is fitted with a black leather strap featuring white contrast stitching. The strap appears new or very lightly used, providing a comfortable and secure fit on the wrist.
Condition
Excellent vintage condition. The stainless steel case retains its classic tonneau shape, showing moderate scratches and small dings on the lugs and bezel edge. The vertically brushed silver dial remains highly attractive, with only minor edge spotting and slight oxidation on the hands visible under close inspection. Supported by the recorded timegrapher result, the movement is performing very strongly.
Dimensions
The case measures 34mm (excluding the crown).
Remarks
This Seamaster offers a highly attractive vertically brushed dial within a well-proportioned 1970s tonneau case. The crisp hippocampus medallion on the caseback and the strong mechanical performance of the Caliber 1010 make it a thoroughly enjoyable watch for daily wear.
History
The Omega Seamaster line has long been celebrated for its robust construction and versatile design. By the late 1970s, Omega was utilizing tonneau-shaped cases to update the aesthetic of the collection, reflecting the evolving design language of the era. The Caliber 1010 was a reliable automatic movement introduced during this period, providing practical features like a quickset date and hacking seconds, which continued Omega's tradition of producing well-engineered mechanical watches for everyday use.
