Dial and Hands
The dial exhibits heavy, even spotting and patina across the entire surface, presenting a distinct, heavily patinated character. Despite the surface degradation, the printed text remains fully legible, and the applied indices alongside the Omega logo remain intact. The dauphine style hands show noticeable oxidation, pitting, and surface wear, aging in a manner entirely consistent with the overall patination of the dial.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel case displays honest vintage wear, with moderate scratches and handling marks consistent with its age. The lugs retain a generally good shape but show signs of previous polishing. A smooth polished stainless steel bezel frames the dial, displaying scattered light scratches. The scalloped style crown is present. Turning the watch over reveals a well-preserved caseback medallion with clear details. The domed acrylic crystal shows minor surface scratches visible under direct light.
Movement
Powering this Seamaster is the copper-toned Omega Caliber 562 automatic movement. The movement appears relatively clean, showing only minor marks on some screw heads and the rotor surface, with no severe corrosion visible. It features engravings noting twenty-four 24 jewels and the matching 20737890 serial number. The timegrapher records a rate of -15-17s/day. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece. The movement was serviced on 13 June 2026.
Strap
The watch is fitted with its original signed stainless steel beads of rice bracelet, complete with an Omega signed clasp. The classic beads of rice links and the clasp exhibit moderate scratches and wear consistent with age. The bracelet accommodates a maximum wrist size of up to 18cm.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The movement was serviced on 13 June 2026 and, supported by the recorded timegrapher result, is performing very strongly. The case displays honest wear with moderate scratches and signs of previous polishing on the lugs, while the caseback medallion remains well preserved. The dial shows heavy, even spotting and degradation, with heavily oxidized and pitted hands. The original bracelet shows moderate age-related wear.
Dimensions
The case size is 35 mm, and this measurement strictly excludes the crown.
Remarks
This 1963 Seamaster offers a striking, heavily patinated dial paired with the classic appeal of an original beads of rice bracelet. The presence of the well-preserved caseback medallion and the serviced Caliber 562 automatic movement make this a compelling vintage Omega.
History
The Omega Seamaster was introduced in 1948 to celebrate the brand centenary, originally conceived as a robust yet elegant timepiece for active individuals. By the 1960s, the Seamaster line had established itself as a fixture of the Omega catalog, featuring refined case geometries and reliable automatic movements like the Caliber 562. The use of the Hippocampus medallion on the caseback became a defining characteristic of the model family. The beads of rice bracelet, often paired with these watches, is highly regarded by collectors for its exceptional comfort and mid-century aesthetic.
