Dial and Hands
The striking and well-preserved blue/grey dial features a deep vertical brushed finish that catches the light from various angles. Applied gold-tone faceted indices provide strong contrast, complemented by a practical day-date window positioned at three o'clock and crisp printed text. The gold-tone baton hands feature white inserts and display honest aging, with visible oxidation and spotting across their metal surfaces.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel cushion case is characterized by brushed upper surfaces that transition cleanly to polished flanks. The metal shows honest vintage wear, with moderate scratches and scuffs consistent with its age and use. An unsigned gold-tone crown operates the watch and shows visible wear to its plating. The distinctive faceted crystal completes the 1970s aesthetic, displaying some light scratches and scuffs on its surface.
Movement
Inside is the reliable Citizen caliber 6501, a 21-jewel automatic movement. The mechanism presents a clean overall appearance with no obvious signs of heavy corrosion or damage, and the rotor is clearly signed with the Citizen name. Testing on the timegrapher yields a result of +15+18s/day. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece.
Strap
The watch is fitted with its original signed bracelet. The stainless steel folded link design is secured by a signed Citizen clasp, remaining functional and true to the era. The metal displays scratches and wear consistent with age, and the bracelet accommodates a maximum wrist size of 18cm.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The stainless steel case displays honest wear, with moderate scratches and scuffs visible across both the brushed and polished surfaces. The blue/grey dial remains well-preserved, while the hands show visible oxidation and spotting. The faceted crystal exhibits light surface scratches, and the gold-tone crown shows plating wear. The original signed bracelet bears age-appropriate scuffs. Supported by the recorded timegrapher result, the movement is performing remarkably well for a vintage timepiece.
Dimensions
The case measures 35 mm (excluding the crown).
Remarks
This Citizen offers an excellent opportunity to acquire a highly distinctive 1970s design. The combination of the vertically brushed blue/grey dial, the faceted crystal, and the original signed bracelet creates a highly attractive vintage package.
History
During the 1970s, Citizen embraced bold design language, producing highly characterful watches that reflected the dynamic styling of the era. The introduction of faceted crystals and vibrant, textured dials allowed standard production models to stand out significantly. The caliber 6501 automatic movement provided a reliable mechanical foundation for these expressive designs, cementing Citizen's reputation for producing durable and visually engaging wristwatches.
