    About This Watch

Now available at auction from Second Vintage A highly distinctive and well-preserved example of Rado's eccentric 1970s design language, this Purple Sabre stands out with its striking two-tone dial and sharp, faceted case geometry. Brand: Rado Model: Purple Sabre Reference Number: 11002 Movement: Automatic ETA 2782 Dial: Two-tone silver and brown with applied crossed sabres logo Case Size: 36mm (excluding the crown) Case Material: Stainless Steel Production Year: 1970s Condition: Excellent vintage condition. Timegrapher: +30+33s/day, running strong and steady. Dial and Hands Exceptionally clean and vibrant, the dial features a striking two-tone configuration with a silver sunburst center and a brown outer minute track. The applied faceted indices with red accents remain clean and intact, perfectly complementing the crisp applied Rado anchor logo and crossed sabres. All printed text is fully intact with no visible loss, while the lume plots show consistent aging. The baton hands feature central lume strips and red painted tips. Under macro inspection, the metal surfaces show mild oxidation and aging, with the intact lume matching the dial plots beautifully. Case and Crystal The faceted stainless steel case retains strong geometric lines and distinct brushed top surfaces, preserving its original bold aesthetic. The polished flanks show moderate surface scratches and handling wear consistent with age, with no major dents or deep gouges visible. The crown is clearly signed with the Rado anchor logo and shows light wear to the knurling. The domed acrylic crystal features the Rado anchor logo etched in its center and shows light surface scratches typical of the material while remaining clear. Movement The gold-tone ETA 2782 automatic movement presents very cleanly, with bright, well-preserved plates and a clean rotor. There is no visible corrosion, oxidation, or significant tool marks, and the caliber is clearly engraved with Rado and 25 jewels. Timegrapher testing indicates +30+33s/day. Performing well within expected vintage tolerances; running strong and steady. Strap The watch is fitted with its original signed folded-link stainless steel bracelet, which perfectly matches the faceted case design. The clasp is clearly stamped with the Rado logo. The bracelet shows moderate surface scratches and expected stretch for its age, accommodating a maximum wrist fit of 19cm. Condition Excellent vintage condition. The watch presents honest vintage wear with well-preserved original geometry. The striking two-tone dial remains vibrant and exceptionally clean. The case shows moderate surface scratches on the polished flanks but no deep gouges, retaining its sharp faceted lines. The original matching bracelet displays normal wear and expected stretch. Dimensions 36mm (excluding the crown) Remarks This Purple Sabre is a sought-after collector favourite that perfectly represents Rado's bold 1970s design philosophy. The combination of the vibrant two-tone dial, sharp faceted case, and original signed bracelet makes this a compelling acquisition for enthusiasts of distinctive vintage timepieces. History Rado in the 1970s was defined by its fearless approach to case geometry and dial design, often utilizing faceted cases and vibrant colors to differentiate itself in a crowded market. The Purple Sabre model represents this era beautifully, featuring the brand's signature rotating anchor logo and distinctive crossed sabres motif. Powered by reliable ETA movements like the caliber 2782, these watches were built to offer both avant-garde aesthetics and robust everyday performance.
