This is a remarkable example of the Seiko Sportsmatic Deluxe, a model that represented the higher tier of Seiko's automatic offerings in the mid-1960s. Distinguished by its intricate fluted bezel and "Deluxe" branding, this timepiece combines the durability of the legendary "5" series with an elevated dress watch aesthetic. The presence of the dedicated date pusher and the iconic Dolphin caseback makes this a highly collectible piece for vintage Seiko enthusiasts.

Dial and Hands
The silver sunburst dial is in exceptional condition, retaining a bright and lustrous finish that catches the light beautifully. It features substantial gold-plated faceted block indices, with a double marker at the 12 o'clock position. The gold Dauphine hands are sharp and free of corrosion. The dial displays the applied Seiko "5" logo and crisp "Sportsmatic Deluxe" script. A framed day-date window sits at the 3 o'clock position, featuring a desirable Kanji day wheel, which adds significant character to the watch.
Case and Crystal
The gold-plated (SGP) case measures a substantial 38mm, which is a very modern and wearable size for a vintage dress watch. The defining feature of this reference is the sharp fluted bezel, which remains in excellent condition. The case lines are well-defined, featuring the characteristic recessed crown at 4 o'clock and the dedicated date-change pusher at 2 o'clock. The caseback is made of stainless steel and proudly displays the embossed Dolphin emblem and model markings, which are deep and clearly legible.
Movement
Powering the watch is the robust Seiko Caliber 7619A automatic movement with 25 jewels and Diashock protection. The movement presents as very clean and well-maintained. Timegrapher testing shows the watch running between +20 and +25 seconds per day, which indicates a healthy movement running within vintage tolerances.
Strap
The watch is fitted with a high-quality brown leather strap featuring a crocodile grain pattern. The rich brown tone of the leather complements the gold plating of the case perfectly, enhancing the vintage dress aesthetic.
Condition
This timepiece is in stunning vintage condition. The dial is virtually flawless, which is rare for Sportsmatic models of this era. The gold plating on the case is well-preserved with only very minor handling marks visible upon close inspection. The crystal is clear, and the caseback engravings are sharp.
Dimensions
With a diameter of 38mm excluding the crown, the watch offers a significant wrist presence that rivals many modern dress watches.
Remarks
The Sportsmatic Deluxe 7619 is often considered one of the best value propositions in the vintage Seiko world due to its combination of size, useful complications, and design. The inclusion of the button-actuated quickset date was a sophisticated feature for the time. Finding an example with a dial this clean and a Kanji day wheel makes this a particularly attractive opportunity for collectors.
History
Introduced in the 1960s, the Sportsmatic line was pivotal in Seiko's history, democratizing the automatic watch for a global audience. The "5" shield represented the five key attributes of the watch: automatic winding, day/date display usually in a single window, water resistance, recessed crown at 4 o'clock, and a durable case and bracelet. The Deluxe models were positioned as a premium step up from the standard Sportsmatic, offering higher jewel counts and more refined case finishing.
